Nordic mist JDM lude, some problems
Hey guys, I've been searching for a while on the forums, and so far, I've found a lot of useful information. I own a 1997 Nordic mist prelude with a full JDM engine and M2B4 tranny swap, done by RPMNY. There is 178k miles on the chassis and body, and there is around 70k miles on the tranny and engine. It's a great car, but I have a few annoyances.
1. There are no after market radios that match the rest of the amber lighting that the car has, and the stock CD player does not do well with MP3 players
2. The back seat is only useful for amputees
3. And the worst issue I am having, and also the most embarrassing, is that sometimes I cannot put the car into first gear at a stoplight. This is the process that I go through from a stoplight:
-put the car in neutral, right foot on the brake, and wait a little bit to put the car in first
-depress the clutch all the way, take the shift lever and push it all the way to the left, and then push it up as smoothly as I can.
Sometimes, it goes in no problems, other times it is hard to get it in, and others it feels like it is locked out, and I can't get it in. That is very aggravating for me.
What I have to do is put it into 2nd, and then push it back up to first. Sometimes even that doesn't work, and I have to do it a few times to get it into first.
Every other gear is fine, smooth and engaging. Reverse is difficult, but that is normal due to the way it is designed.
Is this 1st gear problem common? does this have anything to do with the M2B4 LSD tranny? Is there a fix that can solve this problem? it can't be a synchro problem, from a stop this has no effect.
Any input is welcome.
Oh, and this is my first post, so HELLO!

I have a USDM '97 SH and have the same problem, and yes, it's very annoying. I usually find if I start letting off the clutch it will slip into gear (or, as you mentioned, try from second and jam into first). Some day I'll dig into my tranny since I need to replace the shift fork for 5th anyway to get rid of the 5th gear grind. Honda didn't do such a hot job with the 5th gen tranny's, apparently.
