Default E85 users...anyone calculate their TRUE gas mileage yet? Lets start a database.

I've got about an hour in my tune and I'm averaging 18mpg in mixed city/highway/"wot like a wild person" driving. I'm wondering if, for the benefit of new or potential users, if people can post their setup and true calculated mileage (i.e. no guessing...ahhh about 50mpg I'd say)?

I personally think with further tuning I should gain another 3mpg at least, if not more.

I have LS/vtec, GT3082R, Precision 880's, CromePro, Xenocron pump=18mpg with 1hr tune. Just wondering where I'm at versus what others are seeing?

I've seen others claim much higher mileage but I'm only getting 18 - 20 mpg.
H22, 92 hatch, 1000 cc injectors, GT 3082, dyno tuned with Hondata 300 series.
Fairly mild driving - only in boost occasionally.

Were you two guys tuned for partial throttle? That's the longest and most tedious part of any tune, but will give you the most benefit. Seeing as people can get 33+mpg on gasoline I would hope E85 gets a lot better than 18-20mpg like you guys have even though it's at a lower cost per fill-up.

If you're worried about gas mileage at all though, you shouldn't be using E85. Over the long run, the higher price of gasoline will be offset by the fewer amount of fill-ups required.

I never said I was worried about it, I'm just curious what everyone was getting versus myself.

Like I said, I did about 1hr of part throttle tuning. I'm not saying I couldn't get on the highway and get high 20's, I think it'll do it now, but I mixed in alot of city and 120+mph rips here and there, so 18mpg on a turbo'd car with 880's doesn't seem too bad if you ask me. Especially considering the power and decreased spool time versus what it did on gasoline.

What happens when you need 1/3 larger injectors for the proper air/fuel ratio? - you use 1/3 more fuel!
E85 costs alot less than the c120 racr gas I was using before switching over to E85.

2.29! Good Lord that's cheap! You notice how much 87 is below that right? 93 octane, which I would normally be running, were it not for E85 is currently 3.65/gal. Keep in mind Sheetz has the cheapest gas anywhere around here too.

$2.39/gal here. Just waiting for the price spike.

I get ~21 mpg city on corn running open loop 100% of the time.

e85 is around 2.3x$ a gallon here but it fluctuates a little... no mileage on a honda to report, yet. brother has his ellis juan on the corn though... but its not results you can really compare to a honda though.

Yes, I run closed loop on E85.

Why isn't there more E85 out there? Don't ask me. I think that flex fuel vehicles are going to help drive down gasoline prices due to falling consumption. The best answer I can give is that current processes limit output. I do know that GM has a high stake in a company which has developed a VERY efficient process to produce E85 though, and in very large quantities. They can use biomass, carbon based waste, corn stalks, and other things to extract sugars and in turn create E85. The process also takes less than one gallon of water per unit of E85 versus the current 3-4 gallons. The process is also BTU efficient by a ratio of 7.7:1 (product versus consumption to create it), whereas the current ratio is roughly 2:3 (75,000 btu's per unit versus 120,000 roughly to create it).

In my areas specific case, Sheetz took the forefront on the issue and committed themselves to clean fuel. Pennsylvania is very air quality conscious and I think that has something to do with it as well. Pennsylvania is full of trees and plant life, but due to industrial regions in the Ohio Valley and certain Midwestern areas, the jetstream often pollutes our air and makes Pa's air quality suffer.

For this reason we have some stringent air quality and emissions standards in certain counties. Most people don't realize this, seeing all the green, they figure the air is clean as it comes, but it's not always so.

Either way, soon everyone will have it.

Not trying to take this thread off course, but I keep seeing people ask where E85 is near them, so use this link

Yeah, it would. However, I spend so much time datalogging and my wideband is a pain to switch to narrowband output, so I took the time to tune the partial throttle portion of the maps. I even left them on the richer side, so my mileage could potentially be better.

E85 is the ****. Keep this thread going.

Surprising not many people have calculated any true mileage. Gotta get some more E85 tunes out there.

The day that Wawa gets E85 I will be upgrading injectors and running it 24/7.
