Main Girdle Bolts Left Loose!!! Need help with options
ok i put together my old H23 after the motor sat for 2 years...i ran the engine for a total of about 30 minutes and heard knocking, so i dropped the oil pan and took a look. the girdle bolts had maybe 10 lbs of torque on all of them but the girdle itself looked pretty well seated. all the bearings are phucked, but one of the main journals is cloudier than the others and looks all rough, plus i can catch the center groove of the journal (where the bearing's groove sat) with my fingernail. my plan is to sell this car I'll have to get some pics tomorrow so you can see what im talking about....
can i just drop in a used h23 crank and not line hone it or anything?
can i just replace the bearings and expect it not to make noise for a while?
or am i better off just getting a used block? this block has 170k on it and it burns oil. sorry for the long post, any suggestions welcome - trying to do this as cheap as possible

for the amount of machine work you will likely have to do, especially considering its already burning oil you should buy a new block. an align hone on the mains is around $150-$200 + whatever you will have to pay to hone the cylinders + oversized pistons and rings + new crank + new bearings + main bolts, I think you get the idea.

I'd vote f2x block for $50 from a salvage yard. Might be able to find an inexpensive H2x block also. Next easiest would be to put in new bearings and cross your fingers, that won't change the oil burning though...

true, since i did order a set of acl bearings i like this idea...im gonna change the bearings i can get to without taking out the crank, throw the exhaust back on and see what happens. im selling this lude so i dont care how long it runs, as long as its quiet when i sell it. i see how a used block is the next best option tho
