Default GSR Broken Subframe

Alright, so my subframe snapped in half on my GSR, just wondering if I can bolt the old subframe off and bolt a new one on like a TL or is it welded?

If it is welded, are there any companies that anyone knows of that makes an aftermarket subframe, not just a brace?

front or rear sub frame?
if it is the rear its welded and i think bolted
i dont think a TL would work on it

theres plenty of 92-95 Civic's and integra's out there you can use the subframe off of

be advised that the integra's subframe is supposedly stronger
but if you can get an ITR sub frame its stronger than the normal integra subframe and plus you can add that extra brace too

Sorry, rear subframe...

I know the TL subframe won't fit up, but I was more-or-less asking if the Integra bolted to the frame like the TL did, hopefully making my life a whole lot easier...

My Integra is sitting at a local shop right now, hopefully it's going to be welded together for the time-being, but I'm keeping an eye out for an extra subframe and a really good brace set up so I can run my sway bar again.

I'll post some pictures of how bad it really is... its broken in two places...

Yeah, I'm planning on getting an ASR...

The whole break in half thing doesn't sound as epic as you would think...

Around August of last year a friend of mine who claimed to be a good driver decided to drive my car on a rainy night... and ended up sliding it sideways into a curb at about 40 MPH. Well, I realized he wasn't such a great driver after that and now no one drives my car besides me...

Or so I thought. I decided to let my girlfriend drive because she really likes my car being manual (she grew up on autos)... she hit a big bump at 70 MPH, not noticing the "BUMP AHEAD - SLOW" and "CAUTION - BUMP AHEAD" sign in bright yellow with big bold black font... the bump usually bottoms out my car at 30 MPH, so 70 pretty much made me cry. I checked my oil pan and shocks but nothing looked out of whack so we kept moving... with me driving now.

Later that night I made a simple stop at red light, wait for green, then make a left turn after yielding... all of a sudden there was a huge boom that came from the back of my car, so I stopped after turning off at the next intersection and looked and there was 5 little holes in my trunk, so I looked through them and seen my subframe. I jumped out of the trunk, looked under the car, and it was cracked in half...

In conclusion: the curb weakened my subframe by kinking it pretty hard and the large bump started to crack it, and it finally let loose making a simple left turn.

Sorry that the explanation was so long, but it's kind of funny when you think about it... I always wanted something epic and with lots of flames when I wrecked my car... instead, I simply yielded to traffic. lol

You should be very happy it didn't break at high speeds or while spirited cornering! That would have been disasterous. Glad to hear it wasn't that bad though!

Alright, here's a few pictures, just wondering if it will be okay to weld it or if I should seriously consider swapping out the subframe.

No welding!!! It'll never be the same again. If you lived closer to me I'd say come cut the one off my totaled gsr stripped sitting in the back yard waiting to get junked, but alas you're too far. Just replace it! Don't waste your time or money having it welded. Try an aftermarket one if you can afford it and tell us how it performs. I'm interested in that.

I'd say get it on a jackstand too so it doesn't bend you control arm or your shock if it's not already too late.

Shock is already bent, control arm is okay... I'm having it welded together so it's mobile then I'm gonna find a subframe from another GSR or Type R to weld into place...

I know ASR has subframe braces, but does anyone actually sell the subframe?

Edit: At this point, money isn't a problem... I'd rather have it done right and straight than rigged up.

The part you broke is part of the Rear Floor. You would have to have one cut off another vehicle then welded up to your car. Good luck with that.
As mentioned earlier your car will never ride the same. I don't care how good a body shop says they are it will never be the same. Tolerable, maybe. Your alignment will need a lot of work also to keep everything inline.
Are you sure you didn't hit a pot hole

damn man, looks rough. i just went and looked under my db, and it looks like mine has been welded in almost the exact same spot where yours broke. i am going the asr route also now.

Alright, I got it all fixed and welded now, and it actually drives straight! I was pretty surprised... I'll post some pictures in a little bit...

if that was welded on an alignment rack you can get it awful close. aftermarket upper control arms will fix any camber problems and the toe has a lot of range. If someone knew what they were doing it could probably be welded up good enough that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference driving. i would be very tempted to use 1/8" plate across stress points on the subframe to further reinforce the damaged area. welding in a beaks type plate for the sway bar wouldn't be a bad idea either. I'd keep an eye on it for awhile since you have it fixed for the mean time. make sure no stress cracks devolop. or go get it up to 100mph or so and jump some railroad tracks, if it doesn't break you're good, if it does ....make sure someone is taping it, i wanna watch the wreck

You were right about the 1/8" steel plate, and I'm one step ahead of you. Here's the before/after picture of the welding... I personally think they did a beautiful job...
