Default Clutch terminology

This is on a 1988 Civic, 1.5L, 5 speed

To day I pulled my tranny and now waiting for parts to arrive to replace my clutch. Looking online I had questions about terminology for a Honda clutch??

Question: Is the "Throw out bearing" on other trannys, the same things are the release bearing on a Honda tranny?

Question: Are the pressure plate and clutch diaphragm spring all in one unit?? After pulling it apart I was trying to see where my problem with my very heavy clutch pedal would be. After I get the new parts, I can compare them and see where my problem is. I was just trying to understand how it works...

Questions: Where is the polit bearing??

Last question more about parts...I ordered a clutch kit from autopartswarehouse.com..Will a clutch kit come with the fly wheel bearing or do I need to get that separately?? I am not completely sure what is in the "clutch kit".

Thanks for the help...this is my first clutch work...Pulling the tranny was pretty easy. I have the flywheel off, and tomorrow I am going to have it turned. Parts should be here on Tuesday so I can start putting things back together...

Clutches are one of those things that changes VERY little over the ages and between automakers. If you look at a clutch for a 1957 Chevy truck, it is not going to look much different from a Honda clutch (apart from being bigger, that is). As for 'throwout bearing' vs 'release bearing', they are the same thing. And as with pretty much ANY clutch, the diaphram spring and pressure plate are all one unit. The pilot bearing is perhaps the only thing about Honda clutches that is somewhat different from other automakers. MANY automakers use a pilot bearing that is little more than a bushing that is pressed into the crankshaft. Be glad Honda did not go this route, as these bearings can be REALLY hard to remove. Rather, Honda uses a ball bearing that is pressed into the flywheel as the pilot bearing.

"I was trying to see where my problem with my very heavy clutch pedal"
