Default full width radiator, do I need a header heat shield??

I am guessing at speed I'll be ok just because of the airflow, but how about idling in the pits for cooldown? or stop and go traffic?

does anyone make heatshields? how about ceramic coating? do I even need to worry about it?

thanks

Heat shield between what and what? Header and radiator? I've never seen one. If you've got a fan or you're moving, there are no issues. Idling without a fan will always cause overheating eventually.

yeah between header and radiator...

crap, I didn't even think of the fan... the car should arrive this week. I bet there's no fan. Guess I'll start looking for aftermarket slimline fans...

I'm thinking a heat shield is going to interrupt airflow thru the radiator. Not good. If you've really got a problem with heat from the header, you could wrap it or get some pimpy ceramic coating. But its not going to be a problem if you've got airflow.

I run a full width aluminum Fluidyne on my EF and the header is right behind it like your photo. I don't have a fan, so I do have to keep an eye on things in the pits and in the paddock area. No issues at all on the track.

Thanks.

the seller just told me he believed it has a fan, and never had any overheating problems. (He's in Wisconsin though too... I'm In SE TX).

We'll see. I may get one of those little squirrel cage fans to use in the pits; just set it on the ground to blow air throught the radiator in front of the header.

Assuming the motors healthy you should be alright. I ran a stock civic half size for 2 years before switching to fullsize. Texas weather too.
