Default idle issue

I have a completely stock 2002 rsx type s w/ 116k and with all scheduled maitenence.

the car has been throwing a cel randomly for the past month or so but i would just clear it because the car runs fine, assuming it was something minor

this morning i started my car it would not cold idle, meaning when it was cold it would idle at 500 rpm's, normally it would idle at 2,000-1,500 rpm's when cold.

i am confused as to what this could be because i did absolutly nothing to it between last night, when it was running fine and this morning when it was not running fine.

at first thought i would think it was the idle air control valve or 'rotary air control valve' but once the car warmed up it went back to a decent idle (around 800-700 rpm)

has anybody else ever dealt with a problem such as this and has any input because i am slightly stumped considering it was running fine less than 12 hours ago then randomly doesnt work perfect anymore.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm assuming since you cleared it that you checked the code.

i checked the code and it said that the cat isnt working as well as it should so the code has nothing to do with the problem.

so like i said, the car will start up and be cold but will idle at 500 rpm's and even lower and sometimes so low it will stall out. If i rev the car past 5,000 rpm's it goes back to normal. Any input on this issue?

I had a similar problem. It would get better as I reset my ECU via the fuse, but what made the biggest difference was replacing my air flow sensor, that cured my problem right up.
