Default Oil Pan Removal

Well, after sawing off my exhaust, I was at the point where oil pan removal was realistic. Or so I though.

It's put on there with Hondabond, and whoever did it did a really good job. Even after removing all of the bolts, it's not even thinking about coming off.

Any advice?

I would try rubber-hammering in a small chisel bit and prying every 4-5 inches.

Yes. Every bolt has fallen to my army of wrenches and ratchets. I have verified twice. Still no joy. I will angrily redouble my efforts.

I'll probably just pull the engine, jam it on an engine stand, and go from there, unless anyone else has something magical I could try.

dead blow and a very thin gasket scraper. hitting the sump with the dead blow will help break it loose, then you can wedge the scraper between the pan and the block and it will break loose.

If it's a 5Gen, do the following: remove the engine stiffener, then place some metal stock (0.188" thickness works nicely) between the engine stiffener and the block. Reinstall the one bolt that goes vertically between the engine stiffener and the oil pan. Tighten the bolt. This will pull the oil pan off of the block without having to do any hitting, prying, or anything of that sort. I've done at least a dozen H22 blocks this way with absolutely no problems. I do get a bit nervous about stripping the threads in the pan since they're aluminum, but I haven't run into a problem yet.

If you use my method above, a 5Gen oil pan takes 30 seconds to remove, no hitting, no prying, no chisels or hammers.

The bolts that held the down pipe to the cat were one piece by the time I got there. There weren't even threads on the studs...just solid rust.

I will try the metal stock...that sounds like a good idea.

I'll let you know how it comes.

Oh, I'm taking the oil pan off cause I think there might be ***** in oil pickup. Or my mains/rods are toast. Dunno yet!

Wow...that worked GOOD. 5 minutes later, and the oil pan is OFF! Now I need to find out why my OP is low, and I hear a light tapping noise under load.
