Koni SP3s vs. Sports
Is it true that the only difference between the two is where the ground control sleeve mounts to the shock?
Some vendors on here make it sound like they are valved for a tighter spring. I have heard they use the exact same valving as a yellow, though.
And no, I'm not talking about the SPSS3. That's a whole other beast.

The Koni 8041-SP3 "Neuspeed" dampers are exactly the same as the 8041-Sports, other than these two alterations:
- 5 grooves for the circlip instead of 3
- 20mm additional droop limiter material inside
That's it. There are no other differences. Valving is the same, body length and piston rod length are the same.

Can you explain the "20mm additional droop limiter"? I tried looking in my race suspension books, and I couldn't find this anywhere.

The additional 20mm of droop limiter (or rebound stop) means that the length of the rod sticking out of the damper body will be 20mm less at full extension with the 8041-SP3 than with the 8041-Sport.
This can be useful when jacking up a lowered car, or when using springs with a much shorter free length than stock where the spring can potentially become unseated once the suspension is at full droop. While I've personally never found it to be an issue, some regions have regulations that prohibit running a setup in which the spring is loose at full droop (namely Germany).
