need brake help for my 2000 accord
i have a 2000 accord sedan lx. i drive it pretty hard and it has just about 30K miles on it. i have a question about brakes.
first, i noticed that driving past 80mph and doing a firm steady brake results in the steering wheel shaking.
then, a couple weeks ago, the brakes made the squealing sound when they were applied. went a few weeks like this, then later the squealing sound started to happen even when i didn't apply the brakes. i thought the brakes were loose or something and i let this go on for a week. i then washed the car, and the squealing sound went away.
one more week passes which brings me to yesterday. now i noticed the brakes make this horrible screeching sound like warped metal being applied on each other. when the brakes are being applied, my foot feels this weird uneven bumpy motion that corresponds to the sound being heard. this happens when braking from high speeds or even speeds as low as an idle engine produces.
so i come to the conclusion that i seriously need to change my brakes. first of all they arent ABS but now i need questions answered in going about in changing them.
the sound appears to be coming from the front brakes only, so i was wondering what kind of brakes honda use for the front discs and the rear drums (is it organic or metallic)?
my dad can change the brakes, but he is out of town for two weeks so i was wondering if i could go about just changing the front brakes only and have him just change the rears later?
about how much should i expect for parts and service to change the brakes in the front? is around $45-$65 reasonable?
if i have more questions, which i should, i'll just post them later.
thanks

you might have warped you rotors. a few people on here use brembo blanks i belive and they like them but i am not sure have you looked at your pads/rotors to see what they look like.
so if they are warped rotors, will that cost more than just a typical brake change... or does the brake change include that usually?
havent taken a look at them myself yet, but what should i see if they are warped. anyway to check without propping up the jack and removing the wheel covers?

If they are warped you shouldnt see anything unusual.
You dont need to change your rears, just the fronts.
If they are indeed warped, the front rotors from colletimotorsports should cost around $70 and a reasonalbe price for Honda pads (Nissin) is about $45 for the fronts. As far as the work, do it yourself. Get a manual, and leave yourself the better part of the afternoon. Its real easy.

you definately are grinding metal on your rotors you really should get that checked out... you wore off the pad lining and ate into the rotors with the backing of the pads from what you describe
you are in for an expensive repair bill if you let someone do it for you

my car had 90,000 on it when I changed the Original front pads to new ones 2 weeks ago
shiet man are you standing on that brake petal all the time? Honda is not known for fast wearing pads under normal driving conditions
