Im in the process of developing a sunroof raplacement kit for the 88-91 crx si and 89-91 civic si. I dont have the numbers yet but this would save a great deal of weight from the top of the car.

I just wanted to make sure there were people interested in it.

Im thinking the whole kit will be under 250$ the closest thing on the market now is 400.00$

This is what you get:

Clear lexan sunroof panel (best to paint from Underside with plastic paint)
7 rear brackets
10" foam tape (one sided sticks between the lexan and the brackets)
20 Stainless steel screws
20 nylon lock washers
RTV sillicone
2 siderails
1 front rail
13 side/ front brackets
14 Tall rivets
14 short rivets

The install pics are on my other camera check back soon.

It will be paintable or clear. The lexan used will be 250 times stronger than glass and virtualy unbreakable.

4-24-08 update new pics install/ finished product:











The slider panel and sunroof trim can be used to cover the hole and make the install look very clean from the inside. The brackets and plastic push rivets are $15 additional. (pic below)

I'm interrested but how would it mount into the car? On top of the hole or flush with the hole with L brackets like lighterfaster.com?

lol The mild z6, p29's is running strong. I have the other build sitting in wait. I dont see a reason to put it together yet when this motor is so strong.

 

That's ghetto for $250. You can go an buy a sheet of lexan and some L brackets for $40 and do that yourself.

 

if its paintable then count me in. keep my name on hand so i dont forget about it

Yes this kit fills the hole. It dosnt cover it like the lexan creations.

im interested in seeing finished product. i as well am a lil weary on the price though, seems a lil steep to me? you also refer to having slider brackets...are you saying it will be functional still am i reading into that the wrong way?

 

i would rather pay 250 for this one rather than 400+ for a carbon fiber one

Be my guest. How much is your time worth? I would like to see you fab up those brackets and cut that lexan to fit your sunroof hole in less than 8 hours? also materials are alot more than that.

But hey for you guys questioning the price I will sell the panel alone for 150$ if you think its so easy to fab everything else up. IMO it is not even close to being worth it to do it yourself. Take your sunroof out and look at the rear part. You will see what in talking about.

Hey more power to you bro, but I work at a hardware store, I know how much this stuff costs. And I have taken my sunroof off.

It's possible, you would need a frame around the lexan and brackets to hold it to the rails.

 

not trying insult you about the price thing man. just trying to get as much info. as possible so i can decide if this is something i'd like to get. one big concern i have... is this something that would pass tech inspection at the drag strip?

LOL im not insulted at all, I didnt mean that to come off the way I typed it. Im just saying it took alot of time to make my first one and after I made the first one I had all the tricks and found the best design. More power to anyone who makes their own, I just think I would rather pay 250$ and have everything layed out then having to fab up and design everything from scratch. I doubt if you took a template to a glass shop and had them make a copy of the hole in lexan if it would be under 200$. Im just trying to make it easy.

It passes scca tech I cant dream of any reason why it wouldnt pass NHRA tech, most of those cars have lexan windsheilds and windows.

Havent I already seen these kits on ebay among other places for at least 3 years now???????? Oh and CF working sunroof pnael for the win and for less money!!!!!!!!!
