Default Suspension For 96 Accord LX

Hoping someone could help me out without doing a lot of research. I have a 96 Accord LX and want new shocks and springs to lower about 1.5 inches front and rear and a comfortable ride. This is my daily and am looking for comfort over stiffness. The car has stock suspension and only 76k miles. Not looking to do sway bars or anything else besides shocks and springs and also don't want to have camber problems. Thanks in advance.

You have a whole list of options there. If you are looking for a spring and shock combination, I would probably say go with either Eibach pro-kit with KYB AGX, or for more aggressive lowering, go with Eibach Sportline with Koni Yellows.

There are a whole boatload of brands you can go with out there when it comes to lowering springs, Eibach, H&R, Neuspeed, Tein...etc etc...

Check out inlinefour.com, prostreetonline.com, or even check out the marketplace right here on HT.

Will a 2" drop screw up the camber or will it be ok? thanks for the info.

I have been researching springs and shock combos on a budget for quite some time now. I came to the conclusion that Eibach sportlines were the best drop for the most quality and comfort. I hear that Eoback ProKit are the best for comfort, but they do not drop as much as Sportlines. It sound to me like Pro-Kit might be what you are looking for, and you do not need to change your struts for Pro-Kit to work. With Sportlines, you will need after market shocks. The minimum you should get is KYB AGX. I have been hearing mixed reviews about AGX on their lifetime dependability though, but mine have been GREAT to me thus far. When I want a smooth ride, I put it on the soft setting, and when I am ready for more spirited ride, I simply pop my hood and adjust them to hard. I was looking on H&R and NeuSpeed as well, but when you can get Eibach for $100 used, its not so bad, because Eibach has the best quality out of the lot. Eibachs dont sag, so buy used is okay.

I didn't realize that i would screw up the camber with that small of a drop. The thing is so high that I don't think 1.2" would even be that noticeable but I don't want to "slam" it since it is my daily and I just want a better ride. Here is a pic BTW.

lol. Wow, that is really high. Are those 17" or 18" wheels? I find the bigger the wheels you put on, the higher it looks. Mine didnt look THAT high with 17" wheels though.

94-97 accord do not have adjustable camber in the front so you will have to buy camber kit.

So what is the minimum drop to avoid a camber kit? Or will any amount make it necessary? Sorry for all the questions but i just want to know what I am getting myself into!

i dont know the min you can drop it but if your going to pay to lower your car and for a camber kit that cost close to $500 then i would pay to lower to where its going to look good. i lowered mine about 2 inches and its not slamed or anything. i dont have a problem with speed bumps or nothing either. My camber was off when it was stock and needed the camber kit before i lowered it so i just decided to buy coil overs and a cmaber kit

I have less than 1.5 drop and still needed a camber kit for proper adjustment. Now they are those who claim that a negative camber would not affect tire wear, I can't confirm that. But I can tell tell this, a more than 1.5 drop would look nice but you are definately sacrifying your ride comfort. Take it from someone who tried at least 4 different height set up end ended up with like 1.3 drop. The car feels good at that with Eibach pro-kit and tokico blue (I find KYB to be better for tracks and racing, they are too stiff for every day ride) Also anything lower than that will cause your upper control arm to hit against the wheel well after aligned, and that's a M*&^%$ F$#@%^& anoying problem. Did I mention my car is the same color as yours? LOL

Haha, so much misinformation.

Cactus read the damn thread I linked you to.

No camber kit
No upper contol arm contact
No extreme camber wear (even with the like -5o f/r)

And I track the bitch, do your research and you're fine.

I agree.

Gotta love how people think that .5 degree of camber will shred tires.
But the 2 degrees of toe-in you introduced by lowering won't hurt at all.

Just drop it and get a toe alignment front and rear. Read the FAQ for different tried and true setups. I did my g/f's 01 Accord with Eibach pro kit package. Very nice for a daily driver if you ask me.

Get the toe aligned after you drop it and don't worry about camber kits, they are pointless unless you are just completely slammed and you have OBVIOUS camber issues.

Dude, I am not trying to give anyone misonformation. I'm making my comments based on my own experience. The reason why you have no upper arm contact is because you don't have a camber kit. The negative camber adjustment you have now is bringing the UCA inward, but if you were to have it within specs, it will for sure hit. Now I am not saying he needs a camber kit, 'cause like I said in my original reply, they are those who say that negative camber would not affect tire wear as long as the toe is ok. I agree that camber kits are a pain in the butt, If I had to do my suspension again I wouldn't bother with it.

Cactus: If I was you, I would get the Eiback Pro-kit (now that's only 1.2 -1.3 drop I think) Get yourself a set of good shocks whatever you like, I prefer Tokico Blue for a nice confortable feel, and have the toe aligned after you lowered it.

Trust me Cactus, it's worth your time to read that thread thoroughly. I did about 6 months of research prior to my suspension purchase and am nothing but pleased with it.

And JNAJDM that was my "slammed" days I believe the front had less than an inch between the mud flap and the ground and the rear was about 2 inches off. So I'd guesstimate 3 inches or so in the front and 4/5 or so in the rear from the ground to bottom of side skirt?

I'm at 5" all around now
