Default Interior upgrades - what's out there?

Well, so far all I've been able to find for interior mods for our cars are seats, e-brake handles, shifters, pedals, gauges, gauge overlays, painted parts, vinyl stickers to cover parts, audio and video stuff, tint, lights, floor mats, and door sills. Also there are kits for a push button start, fiberglassed interior pieces, seatbelt shoulder pads, and push-down automatic shifters. You could also change interior part colors using other Accord pieces or you could dye the carpeted pieces. Anything I may have missed?

I know for sure I don't want aftermarket seats because they aren't as comfortable as stock seats. I know I won't be using painted or stickered parts because they look cheesy, or interior lights because they are cheesy too. I was thinking about getting the aftermarket door sill pieces, but would rather paint the stock ones a different color if I was going to mod them. I know I also don't want a push-button start because they're pretty well pointless and aren't always a reliable item. I know I also don't want any fiberglassed interior pieces either because they crack and don't look right to me. I'm not a fan of the seatbelt shoulder pads either because they get in the way. I also will be using a regular automatic push-button shifter and not the push-down style. I know I won't be dying the carpet because it usually doesn't turn out right and if I do want to fix the carpet I'll just replace it with a new piece.

For an e-brake handle I went with the Tenzo R Quick-brake in a gunmetal color. For an automatic shifter I purchased a Nokya shifter in gunmetal color. For pedals I went with the Tenzo R GT sport pedals in gunmetal/silver. For a gauge overay I went with the white faced indiglo style. I plan on also going with a 3 gauge A-pillar setup with white faces to match the stock cluster. I would like to put a voltometer, oil pressure, and AFR gauge in the A-pillar setup. The car already is tinted to 15% and will stay 15% to maintain some visibilty, but I need to re-do the rear window and front tint strip. The rear tint is bubbling because it is a crap job and the front tint strip needs replaced when I replace the windshield. For floor mats I plan on getting some slush mats for the winter and will probably go with the stock Accord embroidered ones for the summer. For interior color I will be sticking with my stock charcoal gray color and just replacing the broken pieces.

Now the audio/video department. I'm going to be getting an aftermarket CD deck that has an auxliary input along with multiple RCA jacks to hook up to amps and video screens. I also wanted to get something that was satelitte radio ready and Bluetooth ready so that I could get it to pick up my phone when it rings and can use a hands-free setup. I was thinking about a touch screen DVD deck, but not only would it get in the way of the dash controls, but it wouldn't be as useful since the passengers in back couldn't see the screen. Also, their price is pretty insane, and the faceplates for them aren't detachable, and I really wouldn't want a 700 dollar deck stolen. My idea was then to put a 7" screen on top of the dash so the passengers in back could also see it. Of course the screen would then be hooked up to the car's stereo system too. I will be getting more in-depth into this later after I get all the other interior stuff done so I know what parts I need to modify to make things fit.

Any suggestions that you guys have?

Sounds like you have a solid game plan.

I don't know if I missed it, but do you have a leather interior? Might be an option, or you can always two tone the interior.

With all that ICE, you might want to lok into a Optima battery. Don't want to end up needed to jump started because your battery died.

Thanks.

Yea, I do have a good plan on things so far. I forget to talk about leather interior, that is also an option to go with. In my case though I won't be going with leather because I'm not a fan of it. It's cold in the winter and hot in the summer. I had it in my RX-7 and hated it.

Already way ahead of ya on the battery. I bought a 850 CCA Optima Yellow Top for my RX-7 and it's now in my Accord. I absolutely love that battery and have so much faith in it. Thanks for the heads-up though.

I have a 7 inch flip out it doesnt block the controls just to let you know. Clarion vrx775vd. Sounds like you pretty much got it all for interior. Depends what you want. I have racing seats, 4 point harnesses, getting backseats reupholstered, getting door inserts reupholstered, back deck wrapped, have carbon fiber dash kit, eurolite CF gauges, a few other things. Good luck with your accord!

Yea, I think I've got all the **** listed for interior stuff besides gutting the interior or putting a rollcage in which won't happen for my DD Accord.

After measuring the dash and such I can't see how a 7" flip-out DVD player wouldn't block the fog light, hazard, or clock controls.

Like I said, I won't be using racing seats or the aftermarket harnesses or putting in a carbon fiber dash kit and ****. I'm not a big carbon fiber fan unless it's a hood. I might be getting some of the interior pieces re-upholstered if they're worn out or torn, but I'm not sure yet.

Something I never thought about before, but you could also add sound deadening material to parts of the car. I will probably be putting it under the carpet on the firewall, floor pan, under the seats, and in the trunk. I am debating putting it on the other side of the door panels also. I do not want to put it on the door skins themselves because if you have to remove it to fix something in the door it really sucks. I'll be putting it on the places listed above because they don't have any components that generally need to be serviced bolted to them.

Like I said, I'll be sticking with the seats I currently have in the car. I've checked out both aftermarket seats and different OEM seats and decided to stick with my Accord ones. I won't be using race harnesses because this is my daily driver, so they won't be needed not to mention make it uncomfortable for other people. I'll also be skipping the seatbelt shoulder pads.

I've ordered my Tenzo R quick brake handle in gunmetal color to match my charcoal gray interior. I was also considering getting a black boot to go with it, but will make my decision once I get the new handle on. I also have my Nokya gunmetal automatic shifter and am also finished putting it on. I had to cut down the stock shifter rod to fit it. I won't be purchasing a boot for it since it sits so close to the center console now. I went with the reguar push button style instead of the push down style to keep it simple incase anyone else had to drive the car. I also have my Tenzo R GT-Spec gunmetal/silver pedal covers on order too.

For a gauge overlay I went with a indiglo white faced style gauge to fit the stock cluster. I also want to do an A-pillar setup too. I was thinking of going with an oil pressure and voltometer gauge since many cars have those stock and they are nice gauges to have. I was also thinking of doing a wideband AFR gauge, but decided it's not a needed since I won't have any way to tune the car and the ECU can easily compensate for changes anyways. I was also kicking around the idea for an oil temp gauge or tranny temp gauge too, but will make the decision later on.

As for painted interior pieces, vinyl stickers, fiberglassed pieces, and carbon fiber pieces I will be skipping those. I've never been a fan of painted or fiberglassed interior because of how bright it makes things which is a PITA when it's sunny out and you get glare off it. Also, I'm not a fan of the vinyl sticker covers or the carbon fiber sticker covers because I think they're a really cheesy add-on. The only place I like carbon fiber is a hood.

As far as audio systems and video systems, those will come later once I've got the other interior stuff done so I can see what I have to work with. I have a vague idea right now of what I'd like to do, but will probably hold off on it for a bit yet.

As far as tint goes I will be doing 15% all the way around. I don't want to go anything darker because it can make it hard to see out of at night. As far as lighting goes, I won't be adding any extra lighting to the interior because it's another thing I believe is really cheesy. Lights underneath the seats and dash and such just isn't my thing.

For floor mats I plan to go with the stock Accord embroidered ones for shows and nice times, and going with rubber slush mats for the other times. For the winter I plan on putting cheap rugs over top the slush mats to help suck up the moisture and keep it from sitting on the slush mats all the time and possibly soaking into other parts of the interior.

I was thinking of doing the aftermarket door sill pieces, but decided I would rather modify the stock ones by painting the Accord lettering on them instead. Push button start is something I'll be skipping, mostly because it's pointless and also because it's not always a reliable thing and doesn't work if the battery is dead.

As far as interior color swaps go, I'll be sticking with my charcoal gray interior. I also won't be dying any of my carpeted pieces because most of the time it turns out rough or doesn't look like. If I do anything with the carpeted pieces, I'll get them re-upholstered. I currently have carpeted pieces and will be sticking with it because I'm not a fan of leather after having it in my RX-7, mostly because it was either burning hot or super cold.

I won't be stripping the insulation or carpeting or doing any weight reduction since this is my daily car and I want it to stay as quiet as possible in the interior. I also won't be doing a roll cage either since the car won't be raced and it'll just get in the way.

Just another stupid question to add to this thread I guess, but what brand and type of sound deadening material are you guys using? In a lot of the new vehicles I've seen manufacturers use the expanding foam in places to keep wind noise out and rubber and carpeted insulation tucked around wheel wells and such too. I know of the standard mat style insulation that's got the sticky adhesive on one side that you can cut and such to fit and off the liquid kind that you can spray or roll on too.

There's a company near Des Moines, IA which is about 3 hours from where I live that manufactures stuff that's very similar to Dynamat. The awesome thing is that it's only like 1/3rd the cost and actually seems to insulate better than Dynamat. The company's name is Elemental Designs. I was thinking of going through them to get my **** because they carry all the supplies you would need.

Any other places you guys put the material other than what I listed above?

I used fatmat, good stuff. Top competitors in IASCA sound competition have used it. Not as expensive as dynamat either.

Sounds like you got the interior stuff down.
One thing you might want to add that I forgot I just put in my car.
Aftermarket steering wheel and hub.

Oh yea, I forgot about aftermarket steering wheel setup. That's another thing I won't be running so that I can retain my stock cruise control setup.

Alright, so it looks like I've got many different choices to go with for insulation items. I guess I'll just have to look around at prices and thicknesses and see what I can get. I'm pretty sure they're all about the same product, just that they're made by different companies. Time to do some more researching.

And just one last thing to kick in there, not quite considered mods, but you can grease your hinges with white lithium grease, lubricate window tracks and weatherstripping with silicone spray, and lubricate locks with graphite lube. Also, you can use Armor All or something similar to shine up the interior, use a Rug Doctor to clean up the carpeted pieces, and use a window cleaner to clean up the glass pieces.

Any last suggestions?

Well, in order to make this easier for me to remember, I decided I'd just put together a quick list.

Interior color - Stock charcoal gray
Emergency brake handle - Tenzo R Quick Brake (gunmetal)
Emergency brake boot - Tenzo R (black)
Push-button automatic shifter - Nokya (gunmetal)
Pedal covers - Tenzo R GT-spec (gunmetal/silver)
A-pillar gauges - Oil pressure, voltometer, tranny fluid temp
Gauge overlay - Indiglo white faced
Audio system - will be decided upon later
Video system - will be decided upon later
Tint - 15% on all windows, 15% tint strip on top of front windshield
Floor mats - Stock embroidered or slush mats with rugs over them
Carpeted pieces - possibly re-upholster them in suede or crushed velvet
Sound deadening material - behind door panels, on the firewall, under carpet, and in trunk

And not quite considered mods, but you can grease your hinges with white lithium grease, lubricate window tracks and weatherstripping with silicone spray, and lubricate locks with graphite lube. Also, you can use Armor All or something similar to shine up the interior, use a Rug Doctor to clean up the carpeted pieces, and use a window cleaner to clean up the glass pieces.
