Default accord brake pads on civic

well I just got done changing the pads on my dads 96 accord lx and found that his pads were still good ...just a little glazed.

anyways my pads in my 98 civic ex were just about gone, litterally, but I couldn't buy new ones til my next check

well I compared my dads pads to an old set out of my car from a earlier pad change and saw that they were exactly the same, only the actual padding (or whatever you call it covered more area. So I decided to put them in to see if they fit and and they fit just perfectly.

so I was just wondering, is there any benefit to this? I called Honda to get a price on my pads and my dads pads and his were almost $10 cheaper, for more padding!

just kinda shocked me a little.
