Default ****HELP**** Looking to build my first topmount manifold

I am looking at making my first top mount manifold for a friend and was wanting a little insite on this before I get started. First, should I use sch10 or sch40 for the runners and straight pipe? Second, where is a good place to purchase all the bends, flanges, collectors, etc. that I will need to complete this project? Also, how much of each would you recommend me purchasing. I've seen a lot of awesome manifolds so hopefully I can join the club. I know every manifold will be different from car to car but just looking for guesstamations. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. As I begin I'll start posting picks of my progress and look for to feed back on how I am doing.

Also pics on how to get started or how to approach it would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks.

You should start with the cheap stuff first. Then after you are satisfied that you can do it without wasting expensive material step up to it. Make sure you do test welds with the material you are using to get a good penetration and to get your heat at the right level. It sucks when you waste $$$ in materials and don't have a final product to show for it.

http://www.acestainless.com has good prices on piping but you will have to get flanges elsewhere. straightlinespecialties.com has some nice looking flanges thought and they are a sponsor on this site. weirtech has great prices on flanges too.

use sch 10 because there is a huge difference in wall thickness when you go from 10 to 40, and when there comes a difference in wall thickness there come a change in weight. We (my shop) and many other shops use sch10 its just the right way to do it. i won't list the pros and cons for it, that is what the search function is for, and i don't have time to type all that right now too! good luck with your build, and give us a call (915) 595-0000 or check us out at http://www.speedfactorytuning.com , maybe we can get you some good prices on materials
