Well I just picked up some 02 SiR rims cheap through work and they came with no tires. I'm looking to put them on my 98 dx coupe. What size tires will work with this? I know theres 195/55/15's but im thinking maybe something wider that wont rub. car has stock suspension on it.

Also, other question. I'm looking for decent tires too. suggestions? good in rain and dry

 

i run 205-50-r15 and my car is slammed . but i dont think you would want to go muxh bigger then that with a stock 6 inch wide rim. you should atleast get a 6.5 inch rim or 7 if you want to run anywider the 205. a good all around tire is kumho. ther a re pretty cheap and work pretty well.

 

i would go with a set of 205/55 or 205/50 - as far as tires i would look into dunlop, bf goods, or a if your looking for set of cheap decent tires i would look into kumho.

best bet is to go to tirerack and read up on what tires would fit that car - you don't need to purchase them from their but it's a good start for info

The closest to the stock size for your 98 is 205/50/15. Do not go with 205/55's. 195/50's are too small and your odometer and speedometer will be off.

Personally, I like 195/55's on a 15x6 rims (which is what yours is), because if you go any wider, it feels a bit more sloppy around the turns. If you had 15x7's, 205's would feel much better. Not saying 205's will be crap on 15x6, but IMO, 195's fit it perfect.

If you're not going to be tracking the car at all, look at some Kumho SPT's or ASX's on tirerack.com. Very good ratings and cheap!

Please do some reading and research before posting mis-info. 205 and 195 represents the width in mm. 50 is the aspect ratio of the sidewall compared to the width. 205 will have a 102.5mm sidewall and 195 will have a 97.5mm sidewall. So the overall diameter of a 195/50/15 tire will be much less than a 205/50/15 tire. Understand?

exactly u just answered explianed it, so if they both are 50's no matter if one is 255 and the other is 185 they both are going to travel the same distance when u push on the gas. now the difference comes when, lets see, both on 15" rim but one with a 50 and the other with 65. u tell me, are they both going to have the same affect on the speedo and odo? no, one will have to make more spins to get to the same distance as the other since it has a smaller tire ((50)side wall) which will make the odo run faster.

Let's see if I can dumb down my explanation even more. "50" is not a measurement--in other words, 195/50/15 does NOT mean the sidewall is 50mm tall. It is a percentage. What you have to do is multiply the width (to use your example, 255 and 185) by the aspect ratio (the middle number, which in this case, we'll say 50). That will give you the actual measurement of the sidewall (once again, IT IS NOT 50, 55, 65, etc. Those are percentage figures!) Now, does 255 x .50 equal to 185 x .50?
