Road Race - Your Street Car
Sports And Touring CAr Racing (SATCAR) would like to invite interested drivers to attend the Formula Street Fall Series taking place at four tracks in the Midwest. These events offer a safe, cost effective way to get started and continue in road racing.
Each event will offer run groups for driving school, lapping/practice, race, and lunch time touring - - something for everyone. Drivers will be placed in appropriate groups, depending on track experience.
SATCAR has created a unique form of competition that provides high levels of safety for drivers and their cars combined with a handicap based scoring system that provides fairness for all drivers. The safety based format allows you to enter these events in your street car, or your race car. The scoring system allows a driver to win with 100 HP or 500 HP.
SOUND LIKE FUN - IT IS!! More information can be obtained by visiting the SATCAR web site at: http://www.satcarracing.com. Register for our mailing list so we can keep in touch.

When this was posted over on it.com, I became curious to learn more about it and their rules. It's actually pretty interesting. The problem is how he's worded the thread title; not how how they have the events organized (at least from reading their rules). There's still no passing in turns and other safety precautions are taken.
To All Posters:
The safety issue is one that comes up occasionally. As the Rules Of Competition state, we are using a format that is similar to driving schools, open tracking, HPDE, etc. Before developing this concept, a meeting was held with the then head of motorsports insurance for K & K Insurance of Fort Wayne, IN. K & K insures most motorsports events and tracks in the U.S.
At that meeting I was assured that K & K would gladly insure our events and that our rates would be similar to driving schools, etc., which has proven true.
Some drivers have looked at our concept without fully studying the details and have likened it to HPDE or time trials. We are neither of those. We use the term racing because it is truly competition, albeit controlled and gentlemanly. Each driver is trying to catch and pass the cars in front of them, while trying to keep those behind from catching and passing him/her - all while trying not to Break Out of their qualifying time. It has been called bracket racing on a road course.
The cars start the race spaced out by handicaps based on qualifying times. As the race progresses, they get closer together, which provides some good racing in the closing laps. At the end of the race, the leader is the winner. Typically, leaders drive a safe, consistent race with no penalties.
We have had a half dozen races so far and everyone has had a good time, they enjoyed the competitive aspect, and there were no bent parts.
SATCAR is planned to become a nationwide, perhaps worldwide, racing program. As interest in an area grows, we will be seeking Event Partners to organize and present events in that area. We will be coming to your area!!
I would suggest that any interested drivers register for our mailing list so we can keep you updated on progress. This also helps us to know where the interested drivers are located so we can prioritize our activities.
