Becuse you've put on miles since the last time it was reset, that's why. It's a mileage based reminder to change your oil. If you need further information on the subject, or how to reset it, the owner's manual does a fine job of explaining it, or you could do a search and pick one of the thousand posts on the subject.

The maintenance required indicator should come (go yellow) on every 7,500 miles to remind you to do scheduled maint. If you dont reset it it will turn red.

Every 7,500 miles you should (according to Haynes)
- Inspect/replace wipers
-Check condition of battery
-Check drive belts
-Inspect and replace if necessary underhood hoses
-Check cooling system
-Rotate tires

Mostly common sense things to do when under the hood, but its a nice reminder for rotating tires...
