Default 1997-98 type R

I don't think this would be in the right forum, but because it is my first day and post here it's the best i could do.
Well im looking at a JDM import Type R. It's already here in cali, it was assembled here after being shipped through parts. I'm trying to figure out how i would get it registered and legally drivable. There is no title, no customs paperwork. so I'm feeling a little scared, any help would be appreciated.

Well you should be scared, lol, especially on the assembly part. Why not just try and get a USDM ITR and not have to worry about all that crap?

That sounds like a question for DMV, or maybe N1 Concepts could guide you in the right direction.

Have the seller give you a bill of sale and get it registered in Nevada. You'll need a Nevada address though. Then transfer the title over to California. It'll probably run you around $3K. Theres a lot more work, but thats the jist of it

When I tried to buy a 91 Skyline GTST (imported an assembled) I ran into a few problems.

• Couldn't get a loan at all for a gray market value car (no matter the lender).
• had a hell of a hard time trying to get the thing insured
• found out that gieco would insure it 100% legal if I spent about $4,000 on bringing it up to US DOT safety standards.

So those are some of the problems you might be facing. I decided on waiting until another day to get my dream car.

It can be done. I did it. Just do your home work and you can make it happen for not that much more money then having a regular car.

now, why would you come one here saying you have completed this process and NOT give him any direction. I understand people need to do their homework, but you KNOW this kid is just going to turn around and play 20 questions. why not just send him a few links or at least point in the right direction.

I have been hellachecking out DMV called em up n talked to a representative. What i got so far is I need evidence it cleared customs, Title(or equivalent), safety verification, and emissions. Sounds fairly easy until i talked to they guy who owned it, which it doesnt have the customs certificate, nor does he have a title. I sw a brief mention of assembling and disassembling, so i was wondering how i would do that.
I was also suggested by the owner to submit a loss of title and then just take it to dmv? So far im liking the nevada Idea i have a few friends over there who might do it for me.
if not, Who wants parts

I dont live in cali so i dont know all the laws out there but where im from it can be done because I did it. And nothing is impossible its just a matter of how hard its going to be to get it done.
