Default 01-1240

Here I present you 01-1240. It used to be Dr Poo’s old ITR. I bought it off him last year. It was sitting on the market for a while with no offers so I decided to take it in and give it a good loving home.

I plan to use this as a summer only street/track/garage queen/money pit.

This car is extremely modified with a built motor, turbo, oil cooler….. roll bar.

First thing I did when I got it is strip it down, take off all the aftermarket parts and try to assess how well everything was put together.

First things first is take the turbo kit off, oil cooler, bigger injectors with clips, replace the evap system, and get it through smog so I can insure it

Unfortunately I didn’t get any before pics but it was a mess under the hood, everything is covered in oil, its like the Exxon Valdese was under the hood.

Along the way i found a couple of things out.
The turbo was loose on the manifold and one stud broke the other three were all loose.
The manifold itself was cracked
I’m still up in the air about just replacing the manifold or going with a full race equal length with a GT28RS since the GT2540 is pretty much maxed out. i don’t know if I want to change all the plumbing.
The exhaust manifold studs where insufficient
I replaced the manifold studs with some from an 1.8T audi motor. There the same M8 .125 pitch but longer

For the interior i took out the ginormous rear view mirror and replaced it with stock visors and rear view. I took out all the gauges with wiring, took out the poorly installed alarm, cleaned up the wiring under the dash.

These will be replacing the old gauges
Defi Link Meters

where the magic happens

Thats pretty much it. My main goal is to get it on the road for now.

Good stuff, so you pretty much bought it with a blown motor and put your own in or? No other reason for oil to be all over the place, not sure. Seems odd...

Dr. Poo had oil issues by the Endyn can filling up under hard acceleration and spilling all over the engine bay. Custom feature

It will be weird seeing Poo's car at the track with another driver.

I found some old pics (2002) of Dr. Poo's car

Glad to see you still have the C's shifter (wish I bought one of those)

Hopefully you will find a better, more cosmetic place for the oil cooler though....

How much did you end up picking up this vehicle for?

Doesn't look too bad..from the small pictures the body seems straight.

its been a while so i thought i would post an update
my car has sat mostly in the garage for the last 2 years. back in the beginning of 2009 i decided i would try to get it running.

it pains me dearly that that this car has sat in the garage rotting away. so i decided to buy a brand new oem front bumper, front lip and a set of NSX fronts in gunmetal.

eventually i got it painted

the only additions to this point were Buddy Club Racing spec dampers with 600in/lb front and 800in/lb rear springs

got to attend 1 track day in 2009.

shortly after this track day on my drive to work the clutch disc separated. it was towed to my garage where it has sat since.

i have kinda lost interest in the R and for cars in general. i have just recently got married and purchaced a new home so i didn't really have time for it. But now that i have gotten these things out of the way its time to focus back on what has given me so much joy. And boy does this thing need work. To call this thing butchered would be an understatement

I've have decided to build this biotch so i will be updating this thread on a regular basis

I have pulled the motor and its in the process of being built so stay tuned

No wonder I haven't seen you down the alley anymore, she barely gets out! Will she be up and running for the Revscene Mar 21 meet? We need more ITR's out there.

I like that carbon hood with the air scoop although I wouldn't put it on my car. About the vent for the intake on the front clip. Obviously he must have had a spare clip hanging around to switch out because that is ugly. Not sure why he wouldn't just opt to remove a headlight.

thought i would get some updated pics of it in its current state.

This is what got this build going. i was driving down the highway and all of a sudden i just lost all power. i had a pretty bad clutch rattle but thought and ended up doing a track day with it. i think thats what did the majority of the damage. I don't know what clutch it is because the previous owner installed it but i would highly recommend against a solid hub disc for street use. this thing was horrible to drive on the street.

This is the other reason. It was burning hella oil. I assumed this is because this engine was formerly turbo charged and have since removed it but was still running on low compression pistons. i suspect the looser ring gaps were the cause. my plans are to convert back to NA but a pretty basic street build with the main focus on reliability.

it took me 6 months to get to this point. i forsee this being a really long project.

C's double penetration shifter, perhaps the best shifter ever made?

since i'm converting it back to a street car power steering is essential to me. picked up an itr subframe and rack and ps system from the wreckers. the ps system will go into the R the subframe and rack will go into my eg....

may as well throw in a pic of my eg. This was the first car that i bought just out of highschool 10 years ago. I've always wanted an EG and ITR for as long as i can remember. these cars are lifers to me. this is whats holding me over til i get the R back on the road

wtf.... so... yeah thats where all that oils going

wtf.... i found this in the oil pan.... where does this bolt go???? it doesn't even look familiar

besides burning hella oil.... it also leaks it out every oriface... mainly dipstick tube and bungs for oil return lines for the previously installed turbo.

so now that i have the motor out i will be installing the head back on and doing a leak down test and measuring all the cylinder and bearing clearances with the block before i decide what i'm going to do with it.

Couple of questions.
This motor comes with eagles rods... i would like to run stock cast pistons mainly for reliabliity and because i have very modest hp goals... has anyone ever run aftermarket rods on stock pistons? any consequences other then weight?

What are peoples thoughts on knife egding the crank to reduce reciprocating mass? anybody run into issues with reiliablity?
