Default Worn CV Shafts, and question about rate of wear

I wrecked my prelude, so I switched the engine to a shell I got for cheap. However when I was putting the CV shafts in, I noticed the boots didn't have their bands holding them down. So I took them apart and cleaned them. However now that I have everything running, I have a lot of play(as in they don't fit tight anymore). I might have not put them together 100% correctly, or they could have just been worn from the grit and grime that was able to get in.

I'm about to make a 600 mile trip in my car in two days. I've driven the car 500 miles already, and they haven't really gotten any worse.

So what I'm wondering is if you think I can make the trip without them completely giving out on me? I know this is a hard diagnosis, but I have no idea what the rate of wear on cv shafts are. Thanks!

Okay so you are going to take a 600 mile trip with no bands on your CV boots. Bad Idea.

Just go to autozone and buy a new cv boot kit, 2 of them. They come with CV grease and the bands in them. Put the grease in the boots, and seal the boots up.

You will be one sorry dude when those bearings break off at 450 miles, right when your almost done your trip

they dont fit tight into the trans? or what

some play is normal, and if you put it back together wrong it would bind up and make a wicked noise, so if theres no noise dont worry about it. you added grease when you put them together right? they need a lot in there or they will fail quick

edit: got the impression the boots are ok, just no bands ? zip ties work fine....
