Default crx not heating up??

ok my zc for some odd reson isnt warming up to temp.it only going to 140 (without a thermostate),so it should go to 180 before it cools itself off.but it dont it dont even get hot enough to open the thermostate.if i keep the thermostate in the car and drive it it over heats.ive tried 2 differant thermostaes, first one i thought my have been just stuck close, then i got another one and it still wont open up.

Try flushing and re-filling/bleeding your coolant system.

Are you installing the thermostat with the bleed hole facing upwards? Water pump OK?

try putting your car on a hill and bleed the coolant system or, bring it someone so they can use the machine that uses pressure to suck/put in fluid

well its not heating up enough to do that.(if i take out the thermostate) if i leave it heats up the starts to bubble the overflow tank.it isnt heating up enough to open thermostate and it starts to over heat.

sounds like you've got a blockage/air pocket in the cooling system
thats odd that w/o the thermostat it only gets to 145, and with it it over heats...i mean thermostats can be bad the second you buy em' simply because their so mass produced that sometimes quality control becomes an issue...try a few new thermostats as well...you never know, the ones you've gotten may be bad?? stranger ***** happened to more normal ppl

I'm still willing to bet on air in the system causing the problem as well.

I also went through three thermostats on my DOHC ZC before I found one that worked properly last time I changed it. Try testing it in boiling water first to see if it opens.

its most likely an air pocket or blockage...and air pockets can be a royal p.i.t.a. to bleed out....
forgot to mention boiling the t-stat i should really quit drinking this early in the day....

having a meat thermometor handy isnt a bad idea either...that way you know the temp that its opening at...just make sure the thermometor isnt touching the pan!!

well, if the t-stat is working properly and you've bled all the air out of the cooling system, then it should be operating properly....
w/o the thermostat installed theres a constant flow of coolant, and with it installed the flow is interrupted until the thermostat opens....
if the thermostat opens too late (i.e. too high temp) then you'll have an overheating problem...you may try getting a colder-opening thermostat (their available in multiple temp. ranges)...the radiator cap may also be your problem, as the cap is what determines when coolant goes into the overflow...if its opening too early to let coolant into the overflow, then its not returning the coolant to the system...you can get your cap pressure tested at autozone

yea thats what i was going to say cuz everyone is explaining problems that would be for overheating i agree with a cooler t-stat i think summit or jegs would sell a cooler t-stat besides its good for the car to run at a little cooler temp. and if the temp only gets to 140 i would put a few strips of tape on the front part of the radiator cuz i had the same problem once and i did that cuz the aftermarket radiator kept the car too cold so i blocked some of air from getting to it and it worked fine

ok well i drove it this morning with no thremostate it it only hit 140 with the fan on.i was told motors can run so good it wont really heat up.i am running on a very very good pm7 bin.

with a thermostate in it dont heat up enough to open then it starts to overheat.without thermostate runs at 140 no higher but living in fl its going to get hot as hell this summer and its not a good ideal not to have one.

hrmm....sounds like your car's possesed...i cant think of anything else to try...short of replacing the whole cooling system before summer really hits in FL...i know how hot it gets down there...

what rad do you have in there, are your fans working properly?

also is your temp gauge faulty.. ... the last thing you can do before replace everythign is bring it some where and get it pressure tested, and flushed ... like i said they use vacuum to remove all the old coolant and pressure to put new in so there are no air pockets formed
