How to fix giant rust hole in floor (Box Truck Content!)
My box truck has an under cab rust problem. It is a tilt cab, and in order to work on the truck, I have to tilt the cab. Problem is, the support rod for the cab in the tilted position is bolted to a giant rusty hole, and the cab falls on my face.
This weekend I am going to try and fix it. Please do not tell me to get a new box truck. I love this one, it runs good, gets 16mpg and fits my rally budget.
I think chopping the entire hole area out and fabbing new is beyond my skillset becuase there are lots of bends and curves. I thought about just bracing the support rod thing against the floor with straps of thin bar stock, but there isnt a lot of straight floor around it.
This is really the only major rust on the truck, it just happens to be in an important place.

With something like this, you don't have to make it the way it came from the factory. Screw the bends. Hack the rust out, and weld in some new metal. On a car you take pride in, yeah, you'd do it differently, but in a function over form situation, just go to town and make it strong.
+1
, you don't have to fallow the exact curvature of the sheet metal. s*%t wire wheeling all the rust/paint/undercoating around the work area will probably take longer than making the new panels, lol that thing is going to produce an enormous rust cloud... be sure to wear a mask.

Oh my god you actually got a box truck. At least now you can stop telling everyone how sweet box trucks are lol. Hack that **** up and weld it with your HF fluxcore box if you still have that. Get Jaydmcrx to help you if you need it. He's damn good I hear.
There is a scrap metal yard on Alpine Ave north of Leonard that will let you buy by the lb if you need to buy random sheetmetal scraps. Should be dirt *** cheap. Can't remember the name of it for the life of me.
btw this is 4sillypwr if you havent figured that out.
Ps Tell the Mich people I said hey.
