Default 97 Prelude with JDM OBD1 H22A, run fine 1 year. Took it to Honda now I am getting Code 4!

I took my Prelude in to get the Clutch replace, got a call the next day that it was done but they could not get it started. They said they played with the Engine Harness and it started. The next thing they said is that the car was shakey at high rpm's. They blamed it on the fact that my car had modifications to the engine harness. I told them I would be back it there was a problem! I was able to drive about 20 miles and all of a sudden at 80 mph my ECU went limp. I was able to make it home, so I took it back out and this time on 4 miles before it threw Code 4 (CKP). Before I took it to Honda my Car ran fine for a year, but if you know about complications with doing a JDM H22A swap, you get phantom random misfires, but you are able to drive perfectly.

It is obviously something Honda did, but i am wondering what i should do about it! the shop that did the swap said the could fix it and bill Honda but I am not sure Honda is going to be willing to pay for the work. As far as i can see they did not modify the Engine Harness!

if there wasnt a code going in, and there is one coming out, they should find the problem and fix it.

How did you do the swap? Did you change oil pumps and distributors?

I have a OBD1 Distributor and Oil Pump! The (CKP) is running threw a similar sensor in the OBD1 Dizzy but I can't remember which one right now! As far as Honda, I am thinking they will try to say that it is due to the modifications!

this is one reason i tell people to swap pumps and distributors. Well since you got the wiring job done, they may have knocked something loose in the wiring. If you have access to a multimeter to can test if there are any breaks in the wiring by testing continuity (ohms)

I hope so! They sometimes seem dumbfounded when you talk about Hybrid Work!

Honda denied any fault, and blamed the problem on the fact that my car is modified!

They're just covering their butts.

But good luck getting it fixed.

I have a great mechanic also but he was booked for the next 2 weeks. I like this Honda dealer because of the free loaners!

yo JBirch, i have the same swap but in my 1999 prelude sh and my car will crank and everything else, but it wont get any spark!!! i am using the original wire harness and OBD2 distributor. Do i have to wire the Obd2 wire harness to the Obd1 distributor???
Does anyone know the solution to this issue???

Make sure the distributor is not installed 180 degrees out either (just happened to me).
