<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by big money race organizer »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Due to budget constraints from many sponsors, the team at Big Money Racing has elected to put our race off until the beginning of 2009 race season. We are doing this to give more sponsors the ability to be more involved with our group of racers. After months of talking with sponsors and racers who’s budgets were already allotted for the 2008 season, this seems to be the smartest choice we can make. The decision to postpone this race is keeping with trying to do what we can to have this race be as success. The whole concept of this race was and still is to re-generate the interest in a sport that we all hold near and dear to our hearts. We have had unbelievable success as far as sponsors reaction and willingness to participate. However most companies have their budgets for the following seasons set in August/September from the prior year. We fully accept that our date planning and sponsorship approach was simply at the wrong time of year. Sport compact drag racing is a permanent fixture in the world of motorsports, with no intention of going away any time soon. However, that being said the past few years have seen a decline in coverage from many media formats. The racer and spectator numbers haven’t changed much, and that alone tells us that the sport is far from dead, contrary to many nay sayers. Sport compact racing is here to stay, we simply need more coverage from our many media outlets, be them print, radio, television, and the internet. Any racers and/or sponsors who want their entry fees refunded can contact algaines@bellsouth.com , also any racers and/or sponsors who would like to contact us about the 09 race can do so at the same address. </TD></TR></TABLE>
So if anyone wants to start a conversation on the downfall of sport compact drag racing here is a good starting point.
all this hype, all these promises once again means nothing and all the racers are let down because someone took on more than they can chew.
there is way too much talk and not nearly enough action from so many people in this industry. If anything can be the major contributor to lower turnouts, less mass appeal, and what could be considered the deterioration of the sport compact drag racing industry I would put it squarely on the shoulders of those types that love to run their mouth but when it comes down to the nitty gritty they can't get it done -- this can range from the organizers to the racers themselves
so disappointing.
i thought events like this were honestly going to be the future of sport compact drag racing, hopefully someone can pull it together and actually make it happen.

It's understandable with the way the economy is going. Along with the fact as stated most sponsors budgets are set in Aug time frames.
And the cost of fuel this year is a shocker...
It will also give rota a chance to be there, the car should be done by then...

Postponed would mean in a month or two, or at least the same calender year. Thats like saying your going to postpone the Daytona 500 till the following febuary, don't candy coat it... it's cancelled.

I just choose to give Dan the benefit of the doubt. I think he put a lot of time into trying to organize and promote something big for the sport and positive; rounding up alot of racers and vendors to make a race in a few months. I can definately see some of the vendors/promotors that want to participate already having their year planned out and budgeted. Hopefully postponing it allows them to go ahead and plan it in early next year and will hopefully allow people that are in the middle of big builds to have their cars finished and ready to roll by April of 09'...which would put the Big race as one of the 1st races of 09'.
I just look at it in an optimistic fashion and hope that it doesn't just get flat out cancelled. If it was cancelled, I would imagine the email would have read " blah blah blah (insert reason) the race has been cancelled, here is your refund"

Yeah I just got that notice too.
I already scheduled a week off work so I could drive down there. I'm not pissed, though. Just have to wait another year for the big money.

ok, I'll put on my fire suit and get into this one I guess.
How many racers pre registered? How many showed a real commitment to this race? There were ungodly hours put into trying to make this race happen with numerous people putting in free effort to try and help the sport. And how many racers sucked it up and tried to offer any help? The whole concept was to try and help this sports as you've so eloquently stated and yet, how many of them were willing to commit?
I've worked as a promoter and I've seen both sides of this coin. You guys are awfully quick to bag on race promoters for not doing their part, and yet you seem to be oblivious to the fact that you've got just as much responsibility.
I love the fact that the guy that was promoting this race has put more effort into helping this industry as a whole in the last year than most people have, through their whole careers.
James, climb down off your high horse, and stop bitching about other people. Since you seem to have the answer to the problems of this sport, why don't you man up and show the rest of us how to do it?
I'm just so sick of all the whining and complaining. Sponsors are bailing out of this sport left and right because they are sick of sanctimonious whiners like this.

Again, sport compact dying is a myth. Why people keep bringing it up is beyond me.
Even if it were dying, no one event or group is going to bring back the scene.

Clayton, I think most of us agree that this is just a postponement. We will continue to support the series.
I would like to see this thread end on a positive note.
There will always be people who speak negative, they just make it harder for others to do positive things.

No, but a big SUCCESSFUL event like this could be the catalyst for other promoters to get more events just like it, and that would be HUGE for the sport. Just look at how grassroots 1/8 mile PROMOD racing was, and now the ADRL has become the hugest spectator draw in all drag racing.
I'm not a whiner/complainer, so I'll just have to wait another year. I have plenty of local sport compact races to spend my time with, so it's not like I have no reason to go racing now.

If you have worked as a promotor then you should know it's YOUR job to setup the event and all the logistics so the racers just need to show up and race. This is not a SCCA race, people are not going to drive hundreds of miles, pay to get in, and expect to do the work of the people making money to put on the event to begin with.

Sponsors are pulling out because their revenues are down 40%. That is the biggest reason why. They have to retain those funds to use for operating expenses. Our economy is in the dumper and coming to a grinding hault. Ecomomists now admit that we are in a deep recession that will take years to recover.

You mean we aren't going to have an economic boom in May when we get our $600 checks?
