Has anybody fit 5th gen front shocks on a 4th gen hatch?
I'm considering buying ITR shocks from a guy I know for my 88 hatch. I've heard they fit. Now the part # at Koni for rear shocks is the same for an 88 Civic and a Type R, so I assume the rears fit. For the fronts, the ITR and all other 94-01 Integras and 92-95 Civics have the same part #, but the 88-91 Civic has a different part #. Also, the 92-95 Civic and 89-91 Civics have the same rear shock part #. That means that the rear shocks on most 4th gens and all 5th gens is the same. So what's the difference with the front shocks?
Does anyone then know what the difference is between 92-95 front shocks and 88-91 front shocks? Do they fit and if so, with or without modification? Has anyone tried this? Thanks.

you'll need the strut forks from the 92-95 and you'll be set
you would still need the front strut forks form the 92-95 hatch and the rear shocks from an ITR
edit: or JDM EG's or JDM EF's or JDM DC's

actually, my car is an 88. That's what makes the rear the same as a Type R. Where does one get "strut forks"? at the scrap yard or the dealer? what do they join to? Are they expensive? Is it still worth buying the shocks? Thanks

you can get em at the yard or the dealer...depending on cost...the strut forks attach the bottom of the strut to the lower control arm...just a simple little piece, but those struts are a bigger diameter so its necessary...

I was on some site looking for shocks and springs for my 91 Crx. On that site they were selling Tokico shocks and claiming that they fit both the 88-91 Crx AND the 92-95 Civic. And I know I've read a few places that Ground Controls will fit both cars. I was happy to read that cuz I was gonna take my Tokico's and Ground Controls from my Civic and put them on my Crx and save myself some money.
Are you saying that I won't be able to do that?

92-95 civic fronts will fit but WHY would you want to??
If your car sees any kinda track time(say shannonville) you won't want to put 92-95 civic fronts on because they are about 3/4 to 1 inch taller than a 88-91 civic front...a total suspension travel killer.

I say don't do it unless your car ain't lowered or you don't see much track

I believe is car is intended for track use....hein Vince????
Me neither,I wouldn't put 5 gen shocks on a 4 gen.That's what I heard.

hmm. . I see your point. What about the coil overs though? Can I at least still put my 5th gen Ground Controls on my Crx?
Yeah, it's mostly a track car. The reason I wanted to do this was because the shocks were from an Integra Type R, in good condition, and inexpensive. But the car is lowered, so I guess it's a bad idea.
I got the Type R shocks today. They came with the forks. Will these forks fit, or do I need the 92-95 Civic forks? Also, can I slide the forks further up the shock until they're resting against the little lip? There seems to be about a half-inch of space under that lip. If I do this, the overall length should be the same as my current assembly. On the KYB shock, the fork does not rest right under the lip, but rather a half-inch lower (like the Type R setup), except that with the KYB shock, the fork cannot slide up any further because a half-inch under the lip the schock takes a 1 mm step wider. The Type R shock has no step and it seems as though the fork could be loosened and slid up to the lip. Does anyone get what I'm talking about, or are my terms too vague? I'll try to post pics tomorrow.

To recap, I want to install this ITR front shock on my 88 Civic. I have the forks from both cars. Which ones do I need? Also, to compensate for the difference in length under the spring perch, I had the following idea. Tell me what you think:

This is the Type R shock. I have highlighted in RED what seems to be an area where I could slide the fork up a half-inch utnil it is right under the lip. In doing so, the length under the lip would be the same as my 88 shock (you can't slide up that extra bit on the 88 shock because ther is a second lip blocking you). Is this going to do it? Thanks.
