Questions on 2000 SH transmission.
Hi guys, I have a 2000 SH and my transmission has been grinding from 4th to 5th unless I ease it in from lower RPMS. I was quoted $1400 for a new transmission rebuild on it (Southern California). Is this a reasonable price and is there anything else I should be aware of regarding the SH tranmission before I send it off? My car has 106k miles and I have never touched the transmission before. Any advice or information is much appreciated. Thanks.
Just get a completely brand new transmission from Honda. It's $1688.

I didn't realize the problem spanned that late in the 5th gens; there's a TSB for the 5th gear grind, but I thought it was only for '97 & '98... it has to do with a manufacturing defect in the shift fork (I am also plagued by the same problem in my '97 SH). Unless you're worried about damage possibly already done, you could probably just have the fork replaced and save yourself some money. I'm assuming the $1400 is including labor; while I myself am scared to go near my tranny, you could probably save yourself about half the $$ if you pull it yourself and re-install it. Let us know what happens.
