Default Buying a "new to me" Accord or Civic help please

Hopefully I will be changing jobs in the next 30 days or so..... That will allow/make necessary for me to buy a used car. I am looking at Accord/Civic.

Can you give any advice on models to buy and/or what to stay away from. Is there a model that has the sun/moon roof standard? If so that could make my search easier. I think I would prefer that option.

I'm looking at 1995-2000 model years.

Thanks for the advice

Rick

99-00 Civic EX comes with a moonroof, D16Y8 motor (Single Over Head Cam VTEC), best transmission you can get for a D series (except for the JDM trans which has LSD), the trans has steel shift forks instead of aluminum.

- im very partial to this model Civic. owned one for 4 years, very fun car. great gas mileage, comfortable, great looking car (as long as you keep her clean and as stock as possible). quick little car for a single cam. 127hp 105lb/tq (i think).

actually planning on getting another one next year. but yea, if i had to get one it would be the 99-00 EX (or the SI if i can find one that's affordable)

my old baby..can't wait to get another

94-97 accord.

they weigh approximetly 2600 lbs. but everyone thinks they weigh 3500+

you can get k24's in them, they are not inflated like civics/integra's ( eveyone thinks they are beaters)

and they make awesome sleepers (blend in with the usal silver camry, white lexus, black BMW roads of socal)

Does the Civic EX have 4 wheel disc standard? Leather interior? Are Civic's generally cheaper than Accords?

Thanks

the Civic EX did not come standard with 4 wheel disc or leather, im not sure if leather was an option for it. i do however think that you could have opted for 4 wheel disc brakes, but im not positive. same with abs, didnt come standard but wan an option. and i think civics would be cheaper than the accord.

i think the 2000 civic ex comes with 4 wheel disc standard, but i'm not sure about leather.

yes, civic's are generally cheaper then accords, however i've owned a 04, 99, 95 civic (dx, lx, ex) and a 95 accord and the accord was probably my favorite car. good power and torque stock vs the civic's. i never had a problem getting up to speed, even smoked a few stock civic's with little effort. easy car to maintain, i bought it with 170k miles on it and put 20k miles on it within 6 months and the only problem i had was i needed new tires. i averaged between 30/35 mpg hwy depending on how you drive. doing 60mph everywhere, staying up to date on oil changes, tire pressure, ect and you can get some good mileage.

if you're looking for just a stock car to drive around and aren't planning on modding it out, i'd say an accord. if you're looking for swap/boost or doing lots of mods where your focus is on going fast, go with the civic. not a lot of companys make parts for the accord, and its cheaper to mod a civic.

just my .02

did not come with 4 wheel disc standard as i drove mine for 4 years with discs in front and drum in back...sad enough, i still have my rear disc conversion sitting in my garage that never made it to the car

Thanks....I'm not planning on doing any modifications. Just looking for good transportation..... at a good price/value. Moon/sunroof since I will be spending alot of time in the car. 4 wheel disc just make break jobs easier/faster. Any idea what rotors go for?

As far as maintenance goes..... I need to make sure the timing belt gets changed correct? How many miles?

Thanks alot

my civic was a DD as well...only mods i did were intake and wheels/tires...absolutely loved it as a commuter...moonroof was an awesome feature, rotors..i would get Brembo blanks (39 bucks a pair on tirerack.com) and get Hawk HPS pads (i think those are the ones...whatever the more streetable pad is, non-racing pad), i did my timing belt/water pump at 110,xxx miles

OP, read this thread for more information on the Civics.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2055230

That should cover most of what you're looking at abotu Civics at least.
