Default d15b overheating

My car just recently started overheating. I bought a brand new radiator a couple months ago and everything was fine up until about a week ago. The temp needle started going way up to the red mark while going up a hill, so I slowed down and it went back to normal. Then just yesterday I got a new intake system and I changed the coolant hose that connects to the throttle body and the intake manifold. I took it for a drive and the temp stayed normal on idle but once I start driving it starts to go up. Even though the hose is tight could it still leak air and cause it to overheat? Im gonna buy some rubber cement tomorrow and see if that stops any air leakage cause I'm pretty sure there is. Its probably an easy fix though but just curious if anyone has gone through the same ordeal. Its a stock setup also by the way.

Have you checked the thermostat? Often the car can still regulate at a steady operating temperature at idle, even with a stuck thermostat. But once you start to push it the temperature will rise.

It sounds like you either have a bad thermo or water pump, or even air in the system. You can tell if the water pump is bad by checking for coolant coming from the weep hole.

You may as well change the thermo while you're at it this weekend.

Replaced the thermostat and still over heats. I'm pretty sure its the water pump. After driving for a bit it still overheats but the radiator is cold.

So, it sounds like the coolant isn't circulating, which may be a bad water pump. Check if there is fluid leaking from it, you can also remove your thermostat and see if coolant flows. If it doesn't, it's a bad water pump.

Ugggh, I just changed the timing belt, water pump and thermostat and it still over heats. I just got a new radiator about 2 months ago. Once the engine starts to warm up it idles up and down also. Do I need a new intake manifold gasket? Theres no coolant leaking either. The top hose is hot and the bottom one stays cold.

did u bleed the system? could be headgasket. why dont u take it to a mechanic and diagnose it then replace parts. U are wasting money throwing parts at it and not fixing the problem

I'm gonna take it to a radiator place tomorrow and tell them whats wrong. I've never bled the coolant by the way. But when I got a new radiator I had a mechanic do it and about a couple months later it starts over heating. Anyway, hopefully it gets fixed. I'll keep you all posted and let you know what happens.

I didn't take it in after all. Instead, I just thought for moment and realized it was my head gasket. I took the head off and it wasn't hard to pull off after getting the bolts out. There was coolant getting through my head gasket, which would explain the white smoke out of the exhaust. But I'm still getting good compression. My piston rings and walls seem ok. My oil doesn't appear to have any other liquid in it.

You didn't mention the white smoke before.

I thought I'd follow up on this post since I've been looking through other members posts and they have yet to follow up on theirs. To sum it up, I ended up taking it to the shop to get the head milled. The head was just slightly warped and leaking coolant from the rear where the intake manifold is. Which would explain what I mentioned earlier about going up hill and overheating, the reason was because coolant was slowly leaking and I didn't know it. But now its running great and no more weird up and down idle.
