Default OBD conversion harness - help

I tried to plug in a power FC ECU today, into 98 car, with a conversion harness I've bought. It appears the harness is the wrong way round. Is it possible? Why would they have made it for an OBD2A ECU (can't be mapped) ->OBD1 car All the conversion harnesses I look at are the same, 3 rows in the sockets and 2 rows in the plugs, which I have, and need the opposite, hopefully the pictures can help explain.

That's an OBD2A to OBD1 conversion harness for sure. With conversion harnesses, the first "OBD" is the OBD of the car, and the 2nd "OBD" is the OBD of the ECU. OBD2A to OBD1 conversion harnesses are gfor people who want to use an OBD1 ECU in their OBD2A car. OBD1 to OBD2A conversion harnesses are people who have OBD2A swaps and want to use the OBD2A ECUs that came with those swaps (instead of getting a chipped OBD1 ECU).

I'm a little confused by your first picture though. Is that an OBD2A ECU below the conversion harness or is that the Power FC? If it's the Power FC, why did you get the conversion harness to begin with if you're already set up for the correct plugs, since your case is OBD2A not OBD1? I'm just confused where the OBD1 comes into play. I know nothing about Power FC btw.

Thanks for the fast reply.

It's a power FC ECU, which I believe to be OBD1, as as far as I know they're only made in OBD1. My car being a 98 I've assumed to be OBD2A.

My problem with this theory is that ebay item http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...28084 is said to be 2A, and matches my power FC, but not my car. So my car, although it's a 98, is actually OBD1.

It looks now like I've got a conversion harness that's the wrong way round, I require a 1 to 2A cable, which are not the popular ones to get.

I'm sure these things aren't meant to confuse me this much.

From what I can see (from briefly searching), it appears that the only power fc for Civics are OBD2A; someone correct me if I'm wrong. It is very strange that you have OBD1 ecu plugs. A previous owner must have converted to OBD1 for some reason. Does your engine harness plug in at the passenger side shock tower, or does it go from the engine directly to the ECU?

The plugs around the engine & bay look normal, I've looked at most of the wiring now and it looks normal from factory. How it's OBD1 I've no idea. Though the exisitng ECU does have 'OK' written in blue felt pen, as if it's been tested - not the type of thing I'd expect from the factory. I bought the power FC for the teg type R (95-01), merely because I thought the base map would be closer as it's for a B18C.
I've got a 1-2A converter on the way, I'll try and get £few back from the wrong harness.
Almost makes me want to open the exisitng ECU and see if it's been chipped - not that it seems it from driving.
Cheers for the quick reply again.
