1992 4cyc Accord Pingin
Hello.
I recently bought a '92 Accord and I like it. It's great on gas and is what I'm going to use to drive every day for this reason.
Between 2500rpm and 5000rpm under load the car will ping but If I back off the throttle slightly the pinging will decrease and even stop. At that point the acceleration is a bit slower since there is less effort into the peddle. At the same time, when I here the engine pinging there is no loss of no feel of loss of power.
I find when I'm on the highway and driving for a little while and then come off the highway the pinging will decrease somewhat. It's easier to feather the throttle to get it just right to accelerate without the pinging.
200K miles.
At first I thought it may be a lifter but when I feather the throttle while climbing rpms there is no noise.
There is no hesitation or rough idle at all. It runs very smoothly. It does not ping while in neutral and free reving through the rpm range.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Honda Noob

Sounds like the timing is too far advanced, your best bet would be to check it with at timing light. When checking the timing have the engine at full operating temp and all electricals and A/C shut off.
Your car should have a rubber plug in the front side of the bell housing that needs to be removed so you can see the timing marks.

Thank you, kindly!
So, you believe it's all timing? I know it's the first thing I should have checked. I will later on this week.
What should the timing be set at? My car is 5spd.
Thanks,

I think that engine is 12-15 BTDC, there will me a painted mark at TDC and a painted mark for the timing.
If you can't get it in time, the T-belt might be a tooth off.
