Question about paint mixing

Question about paint mixing
ok, so i am new to painting, so i thought id give a crack at painting my beater work truck first before i attempted my del sol. Im doing a simple basecoat/clearcoat with NASON paint. I went to our local paint store and told them to give me everything i needed (paint materials) so that i could paint the truck. After reading though the mixing/ratio sheet, i noticed it said for the FULL-BASE i need: the base, an activator and a reducer (parts 8-1/2-4). But when i was at the shop the guy just told me to mix the paint and the reducer at 2-1 and he didnt give me an activator. My question is.... Do i need the activator?? He didnt give me any, and didnt include it in his oral directions he gave me. Id imagine if i didnt use it, it would just take the paint longer to cure... but like i said, wtf do i know, im a rookie. Any professional help would be appreciated.

if your doing a base/clear you dont need the activator in the basecoat, just reduce the basecoat with the proper reducer at your prefered reduction rate. and of course when you mix your clear use the proper degreed activator. nason makes single stage paint. which is what would require the activator. they use similar cans to package the material. but they print the directions on all the cans. nason makes full base and full thane. ones a single stage and ones a base/clear.
