hello. i did a search and checked all the post and still need help. I changed the head gasket and head on my aunts 91 honda civic dx 4 door 1.5L automatic and the problem i have is the car runs great doesnt overheat no check engine light but it blows alot of smoke (burning oil). the car was overheated to the point that it just died. that is why i put a new head on. what did i do wrong? is there a secret? any help and input on this would be greatly apreciated. oh yeah! could oil control valve (i think its called that) be causing this?

 

if it ran till it died, prolly the rod bearings are cooked, piston rings are gone and the cylinder walls are scratched all to $hit. good luck

 

piston rings are probably toast. if you want to fix it, you'll need to pull the head again, remove the pistons, inspect everything, change the rings and maybe hone the cylinder walls. next time a car overheats, park it right away (before it dies) and you might save yourself some work. tell your aunt

 

i thought that too but it runs exellent and really quite. there was no unusual wear on the cylinder walls.

 

assuming the head is good, your rings are done. maybe a crack in the block too. overheating to death is the worst thing for a motor. even if everything 'looked' ok, it's probably not. best case you need valve stem seals, worst case rings and a block. regardless of how it's running, it has major issues if you're burning that much oil

 

Sound like fried rings very common on a car that over heats really bad
