Default squealing sound coming from driver rear side 94 Honda Accord Ex Coupe

I am having an intermittent squealing sound coming from the rear driver side. I can't figure out if it is the wheel bearing or the caliper sticking. I haven't ever heard of a front wheel drive car having a rear bearing having to get replaced. My car is a 94 ex accord with 199,300 miles on it. The squealing sound is very intermittent. I thought if it is the calipers then when i tap my brakes it should uncompress the brake piston. But that isn't the case. it sounds like metal on metal. I check the pads and I still have 35% left.

Thanks,
Sid

Have you checked the metal plates behind the brake rotors?

no i don't think it is the metal vent plate because if that was the case, the squeal would not be intermittent.

thanks,
sid

WHATEVER! A car doesn't just start making metal on metal sound just because of old age. Something is obviously wrong.

Have you tried to lube the calipers or the bearing?

oh really? are you sure? many cars squeak and rattle at that high milage..... you sure didn't want to take that other guy's advice and he just may be right something inside your brake drums or dragging on your calipers (if you have them). I had a car where the brake adjuster broke and it made the same noise as you describle... if fell to the bottom of the drum

I have a 94 EX accord. it is DISC brakes all the way around. no drums to check. I already checked the pads. The shims are fine. That is why i am narrowing it down to caliper rebuild or bad bearing.

thanks,
sid
