very very slight whine after T-belt install... B-series (searched)
i searched this and most posts are saying timing belt is too tight... well im not too sure about that... im thinking it could be the new tensioner that i installed needs to break in... not sure tho... i did the 3 teeth counter-clockwise method and it seemed just a lil too loose for me... like in between the cam gears i was able to push on the belt about an inch deflection... and the exhaust (long side) was at about an inch deflection... THEN i used a screwdriver ever-so-slightly to pry on the tensioner bracket and now in between the cam gears deflection is about half an inch deflection and the exhaust side is at about 1/2 inch- 3/4 inch deflection... im thinking the noise is maybe the new tensioner or water pump breaking in, or perhaps a drive belt is a lil too tight... let me know if you guys think my T-belt is too tight by the method i used... i really barely pryed a hair on the tensioner spring bracket with a tiny screwdriver with barely any leverage... like a millimeter more than the 3 teeth method, if even that much... let me know what you guys think... thanks

just check it all again... it must be something else... everything is out of the way of the belt...
i'm having the same problem...sounds like whispering and definitely coming from the water pump area...i think it's the cover rubbing the water pump and don't know what to do-weird thing is i had this problem since before i replaced the water pump and timing belt

sounds to me like your belt might be too tight. I had a whine, which sounded like a supercharger it was so tight, after I changed my timing belt. I loosened the tensioner and the whine went away.
Either your timing belt is too tight;your timing belt tensioner bearing is bad or defective;water pump has a problem(never seen this cause this type of noise, but theres allways a first);idler tensioner pulley for the A/C belt is going bad;or a drive belt is to tight or loose.Never heard a rubbing cover make a whinning noise.
I would first start by removing drive belts one at a time.If noise is still there after all drive belts are removed slightly loosen your timing belt.On the timing belt cover there is a removable rubber grommet that covers the lock bolt for the timing belt tensioner.Crack it loose slightly and the belt usually loosens up just a little.DO NOT LOOSEN BOLT COMPLETELY!

The torque on the tensioner bolt simply locks the position. It does not adjust the tension. Rotating the engine sets the tension.
