clutch cable broke now tranny wont go into gear
posting question for a friend......the clutch cable broke while driving....have replaced the cable and the clutch/pp/bearing......now wont go into gear......could the release fork that the throw out bearing is attached to be bent.....or is there any adjustment at the pedal......any info will help and pictures if possible
Update Edit......we took the tranny off and the problem was the clutch disc was cross splined....basically we had to break the disc to get it off the input shaft

like the guy above me said, check the clutch cable adjustment at the transmission. most likely its just not tight enough so even when your fully depressing the clutch pedal, its not completely releasing the clutch.
if it goes in while the car is off but not when its on, it sounds like the alignment of the fly/clutch/preasure plate is off
thats what the tool is for

wrong.
What it means is that the clutch is not fully disengaging. That means there is too much play in the cable and it needs to either be installed correctly or with less slack.

the clutch cable is tightened down as much as it will go and still wont go into gear....basically when the engine is running and you go to put it in gear it jerks forward
a common problem that occurs and i have experienced myself is the improper installation of the release bearing which causes wear on the spring that is part of the shift fork and may even lead to it breaking or popping off which will change the engaging level on the cable.
a couple of things i would try is have the car running and have someone adjusting the cable and someone trying to engage the clutch as you adjust it... if nothing changes check to make sure the cable is installed properly on both sides (pedal and transmission) if unsure, share some pictures with us.
now if at this point you still have nothing, with the car off can you shift through the gears at all?
next is tearing it all down and check everything and putting it back together....this will only take a couple hours if you have done it before...
like i said if you are unsure about anything just post some pictures as its easier for us to pinpoint something
