Default Diesel Crash

Gary Lee from Southern Diesel Performance Inc. (well known in the diesel world) was in a horriable accident on March 15, 2008. He was super lucky to walk away from this, and he has shared this video for others to watch, and to realize just how fast **** can happen.

Here is the link to the video
http://www.nhrda.com/0315/Vid.htm

A little background on the truck for those who want to know.
This is/was a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 (Yes half ton) Single Cab Short Bed
12 Valve Motor build by Jeff Garmon
Full Billet By Suncoat
Im not 100% sure on the "exact" specs, So I don't want to throw them out there.

Its amazing that Gary walked away from this ...

Very happy to see he is alright!

I've seen many good drivers steer out of things like that... not saying that I could have, but it seems like he had some serious over-correction going on.

Moving that fast the slightest slip of a tire and a quick jerk of the wheel is what happens in seconds that at times are unavoidable..

Im glad he was able to walk away from that!

True. Like I said... I'm no pro on the matter, but it seems like when he went left, he could have stayed over there rather than jerking right. Amazing how fast **** can go down.

High center of gravity and big *** tires makes things much different when it comes to controlling a car that's out of control.

The Diesel Drag Racing community is very large and the top guys make alot of torque. My Diesel Excursion doesn't make half the torque as some of the top guys, and I have at times punched it a little to much and it will get away from you very easily. Glad to see that he walked away.

Looks to me like the throttle got stuck open. Whole lot of weird things happened after he hit the wall.

If you watch when he comes down from hitting the light poll the rear tires shoot dirt everywhere and the car moves forward. Somethings up there.

Glad he's ok, that must have been a wiiiild ride.

Yeah, I know. But I'm sure you understand what I mean regardless, the engine was still taking in air.

i dont think the ladder part of that accident(which was quite spectacular taking out the poles and stuff) would have happened if they had a proper concrete wall in place. Those metal "walls" are like ramps that accelerate a crash to the next hell.

I can't believe some tracks still have guardrail walls. I refuse to race at those places.

Glad to see the guy is ok, But when will these small tracks learn that steel guard rails are UNSAFE!!!!! at any speed. I was at a race when an altered flip over and slid down the guard rail basically turning turning the guard rail into a 3 foot razor blade. The guard cut through the cage and unfortunatly slicing through the drivers helmet and skull killing him instantly.

Like Eric, I to would never race at a track with steel guard just from what i witnessed first hand.

I've seen a mustang hit one of those types of gaurd rails at an 1/8th mile track and it literally turned into a ramp. They definitely need to do away with those things!
