Carbon Fiber Valve Cover?
Hello, I wasnt sure where to post this but I have a friend who has a friend who can do carbon fiber. He told me he was goign to get his valve cover done in Carbon fiber. Not just a cover over the normal valve cover, but a full valve cover done in Carbon fiber. Is this safe? Would it be fine for daily driving? I just dont see how a carbon fiber valve cover could be safe. The reason why he is doing it is because he can get it pretty cheap, but other than cost(for normal people), are there any cons to having a carbon fiber valve cover? Thanks, any input would be appreciated!

Wow if my dad knew how to do Carbon Fiber or even if I knew anyone personally that could do Carbon Fiber, I would definetly take advantage of it. Especially if there good

no, i haven't asked. probably because anything i'd want made (hood mostly) would require it to be taken off and molded, and i drive my car every day
well Carbon fiber is tuff stuff, but what about the fiberglass or epoxy used to hold it's shape. Would that melt from the heat of the head? Then the fibers would fall into the head and mess it all up.
What do you all think.

there is actually a company that makes the full cf valve cover... but i couldn't find the pic anywhere. maybe someone will post up. doesn't seem to be anything you'd want on a daily driven car or tracked car... maybe show cars?

...even if the CF weave is completely tight, i don't see how this is possible. there atleast has to be a small thin layer of metal. oil would rot the CF in no time.
It can be done:
but you'd better be damn sure the epoxy is crazy high temp. or else there's going to be a whole lot of melting going on. I was thinking of doing the spark plug cover, and even with that I'd put heat reflective tape on the underside. Good luck if you do try it, but I'd keep a close eye on it the first time I drove it (i.e. checking under the hood every 20 seconds

well the guy who is doing my friends has done a handful of bmw cf hoods, and has done atleast 2 FULL carbon fiber widebody BMW m3s. The guy is a perfectionist too
they have a carbon fiber valve cover for the b17, or whatever the engine codes for the DA tegs are. check it out at importfan.com, id post a pic but dont know how
Get ready for a leaky valve cover if you get it. I had a freind that spent $800 on a valve cover did absolutely nothing but leak. Waste of money

most CF valve covers are valve cover, covers....they cover the regular valve cover. I think Weapon-R or some crap company makes em....I know for the old L-block Datsun 240-260-280z's you can buy them but they are just a cover for the metal valve cover, still looks cool as all hell though.

Can you modify the general mold of the product after it's been cured by reheating and reshaping?
I'd be more interested in a carbon fiber intake plenum. Man the stock one is frikkin' heavy and awkward for the way you have to lean over to get it off the head studs.

i forgot which but theres a company that makes a full carbon fiber valve cover. i have seen it in person and by the way one looks i wouldnt trust it as a stand alone cover. it looks like it would melt in high heat and crumble all over your motor.
