there is a bolt facing toward the front of the car just below the alternator, you need to loosen the bolt attached to the slotted bracket on the bottom, it is a larger bolt that has the swiveling piece attaches to. Once you loosen that bolt turn the tensioning bolt facing the front of the car until the belt is tight

alright so i'm a little confused. i see two very similar bolts facing towards the front of the car. one of them is the tensioning bolt? also if i was looking towards the car from the front is the bolt i need to loosen on the bottom right of the alternator?

One of those two bolts, I think the left one, is very short and holds that bracket in place. If you were to unbolt it the alt would be able to swing forward and back freely given that you already loosened the big bolt. The other bolt on front is several inches long and you should be able to feel the exposed threads of that bold if you reach under the alt. If you turn that it will swing the alt in or out. If memory serves, those bolts are 12 mm each. The other bolt that you need to loosen to adjust is under the alt pointing toward the drivers side fender. It is much bigger like 15 or 17 mm I think. Remember to tighten it when you are done.
