Turbo selection for daily driven b16a2

Default Turbo selection for daily driven b16a2

Good day honda-tech. I need help in selecting a turbo for my 1994 Integra. It is my daily driver, but I will drag race it at least 5-8 times a year. My goals are 250-300 whp daily and 350+ for racing. Here is what I have:
1994 Integra LS
b16a2 longblock
skunk2 intake manifold
jg 70mm throttle body
gsr cams
eagle rods
arp headstuds
srp pistons (7.8:1 )
stock sleeves
sfp t3/40mm manifold

I chose the pistons because at the time I was planning on running a LS bottom end which would have yielded higher compression, but I have them now. At this point I would like to choose a turbo that will meet my goals efficiently and leave a little room to grow. Any and all comments welcome.

An easy solution to this would be a 57 trim. They're tried and true on many Honda setups. With that low compression you're going to have a lot of room to boost on pump gas and can easily bump your goals to 350whp daily and 450whp on race gas...if you want. Also, if you have E85 in your area, you're golden.

Thanks for your words. That's what I thought but I wasn't sure due to my low compression. I was looking at the borg warners but I didn't know if I'd be able to reach my goals. I'm willing to rev but I would like to build reasonable boost in the mid range.

borg warner has some 57 trim turbos. t3 to4b and t3 to4b, some are for sale in the sponsors marketplace

if you're looking for a turbo that is great in the midrange, check out the GT3255b. I had one on my last setup and it was great for the street. I made 315whp/216wtq at 10psi and had full boost by 3800rpm.

Those are fine as well, however the exhaust wheels do need to be changed to their smaller counterparts

im stilll in the learning process, so bare with me please, but why would the exhaust wheels need to be changed?

That's the kind of information I'm hoping to get before making a purchase. I want to make sure I understand what I'm getting myself into before I spend the money. I'm willing to upgrade my valvetrain and rev to 9k, but I would like to reach full boost no later than 6k.

t3/t04 50trim with .48a/r would be my recommendation. due to low comp and only 300whp.

TheShodan has this wonderful little turbo called the GT3255b which is basically the same as a 57 trim, but spools up noticeably faster. I had it with an SLS shorty and it made full boost before 4k rpm and pulled hard through redline. At 10psi on it, i made 315/216 on a Dyno Dynamics Dyno. Search my name and you will find more about it.

Cliffs: PM about the GT3255b...you wont be disappointed

i had a GT3255E on my B16 and it didnt start to create boot a little before vtec.

Its a junk turbo for a B16. not sure about a GSR.

i rock a gt2871r w/t3 housing get full boost at like 3800 rpm, only problem is the b16a has such a short stroke it doesn't start to pull that hard untill vtec........

my buddy has a stock internal gsr with a 57 trim at 302whp..... It has real good spool time and is tons of fun....i give a +1 to the 57 trim.

Generally the GT3251e is suggested for the B16. Also remember that spool time has a lot to do with the manifold, downpipe, and exhaust so dont blame everything on the turbo itself.

i had a one fab, 3" downpipe, and full 3" ehaust and i didnt see boost a little before vtec.

same with my friends 99si.. spool ramhorn, full 3" downpipe, full 3' exhuast, and doesn't get boost until vtec.

two different motors, both simliar setups, same turbo didnt create boost until before vtec,

i think im gonna have to say its a shitty turbo for the b16.

you sure your vtec point wasnt set too high ?

my 57trim started spooled around ~4000rpm and had 7psi by ~5400rpm.
stock b16a ebay turbo/log mani/2.5" open DP.

With my STC built GT3255b on an SLS shorty, i saw full boost (10psi) by 3800rpm on the street...
