Default Air Conditioner

I've got a 97 LS and it seems that the A/C just sucks really. It works but only gets kind of cold on a hot summer day. I have heard someone say that at about 5 years the R134 gets kind of weak and should be recharged. Is this true, does it really get old or is this really as good as it gets with the Integra A/C ? Thanks.

try recirc.

It takes the already cold air inside the car and cools it further.

If that doesnt work... recharge it.

I think it also depends on where your driving. My A/C is super cold on the highways where the air is flowing through the condenser where as driving in the city doesn't get it as cold.

yeah I had a thread on the weak A/C too.. .it seems that it works well if the temp outside is 85 and under.. but once you get over 90 degrees...

on my car (95 gsr) regardless if its on re-circ, fan is on full speed, vent position is blowing to drivers face only, etc.. it's "cooler" than outside air.. but not cold... anything over 95 and it just kind of sux.. I used to drive from Nor Cal (college) to So Cal (home/ex gf) a lot so as I'd pass through Central CA, Bakersfield, etc.. and it was like 100+ outside the A/C really sucked.. even at highway speeds, fan on full blast, using re-circ... the air out of the A/C was cooler than ambient temp but in no means cold...

if its 85 degrees or under outside then the A/C works fine.. anything over and it sux.. I had my A/C tested and it tested fine.. it hasn't really heated up (yet) in So Cal (well kinda today) so I haven't realy used my A/C much this year but ugh.. I know its going to suck again when it heats up...

I can't say for newer Hondas or what not but my experience with them is that they make crappy ac's. It doesn't matter what condition the ac is, good or bad, if the needle points above 90, it doesn't work well. My experience comes from being in or owning the following cars; 86, 90, 91, 92, 93 Accords 95 Civic 95 Integra. All of their ac sucks even after a new recharge. On the other hand, an old 84 celica, 92, 98 Corolla blows cold even after years of usage.

I don't think mine is that cold, probably because i don't use it enough. Plus I'm comparing my AC to the one that was in my old 944 T. I got that AC so cold that when I was done driving at night in Houston, I would see consensation on the windows when I was done driving, god I loved that car.

On a really hot day, mine just takes more time than normal to get freezing cold. The recirculate button is your friend. Recharging the system will help...do it.

I had the same problem on my 95GSR so last summer I had the system drained and then re-charged. Still though on 95+ days it was battling to keep up. So recently I had my windows tinted to block some of the heat. I think the biggest problem I have is my black interior. Everything in the car absorbs the heat and it takes forever to cool. I'm hoping the tinting will keep things cooler. They claim it will help the AC but I'll wait and see. I went with the Gila 20% light transfer which is supposed to block 47% of the heat. What a pain it was to install on the back glass. If I where to do it again, I will gladly pay someone.

Hmm... $4.50 a bottle at Walmart, and since I've got my own hose for it.. It pretty much costs me $9.59 including tax and labor.. LOL.. But anyways, I've heard that it costs about $250 for a recharge..

A proper recharge is to have the old refrigerant drawn out of the system, have a vacum applied to the cars a/c system to give a negative pressure in the lines, then refrigerant put back in to proper specs.

I can testify for this cause my dad's 91 toyota truck has got ac that gets so cold I'd have to turn it off. From my experience Toyota's ac system gets a .

My A/C works fairly well... I would highly recommend having the system vacuumed before putting new R134a in... The vacuum pulls all (ok, well MOST) the "air" or of the system and removes moisture from it as well. From what I've heard this step is crucial to a proper re-charge. I must agree that Toyota makes awesome A/C... but I've found late model American cars to have incredible A/C. C5 Vette freeze you to death... that and with the V8 you can't tell if the A/C is on or not (FYI- I LOVE C5's and the LS1). I've also found that the Neon has amazing A/C too.
