Some body told me that the ZC has slightly shorter gears. I would probably go with the Si tranny since its way easier to get a hold of.

The ZC tranny does have shorter 1-5 gears. The drawback is that the ZC is handicapped by a DX final drive (3.888). Put the Si FD (4.250) into the ZC box and you've got a great gearbox. Transplant the Si 5th gear in too and it's even better.

what TJ said is the best advice i was going to tell you the same. This setup is going to be my tranny for my future sohc vtec project.

No, final is your differential's ratio. Think of rear-wheel driven cars and their differential is near the rear axle. Well, since our cars are front-wheel drive, just think of having the differential located inside the transmission housing. HTH

no. YOu have the 1-5 gears on the main and coutershafts, and then you have the final drive ratio which is a large helical gear on the end of the countershaft and the ring gear on the diff.
a final drive set requires a ring gear and a countershaft.
a 5th gear set is two donut shaped gears which slide onto the main and countershaft.
see the exploded view of the tranny - you'll get it.
