Default I am a complete newbie to this world

Hey guys, I kneed some help here, please bear with me. I have never learned a great deal of cars because I just figured that I would when I bought my own car. Well I did. And I would hope some of you guys could help me understand some things. Im cruising threw some posts and I keep hearing "STOCK" and i have no idea what that means and I wonder if there are other terms that kind of fall into that category, not STOCK but maybe another term and another meaning for a related thing. I have a 93 Honda Accord EX Edition and I just wanna start small with the upgrades. I keep hearing about intakes but i still dont know what would be the best for my car I hear about Air Intakes, are there different kinds of intakes?. Ive also been searching for some tutorials on how to install an intake. Thanks guys, Ill be around here alot, any information to me would be very, very helpfull right now. Thanks Alot

stock means a car that is unmodified from the factory, if you change anything on your car then your car is not 100% stock. Another term can be "unmodified".

i personally wouldn't get a short ram intake, it just sucks in warm air from the engine bay. you will see a gain in topend hp but you will lose the much needed torque. i would either get a AEM CAI(cold air intake) which sucks air from behind your bumper, an ICEMAN CAI or just buy a K&N dropin/replacement filter for your stock intake so that way you will retain, if not gain torque and will noticabely improve your topend.

STOCK is pretty much, a car how it is from the factory, no upgrades in regards to appearance, handling, or power.
Air Intake and Intake are the same thing, just different names.. most people recommend AEM because of their 'scientific design' etc etc.. http://www.aem.com.. Intakes arent hard to install, just find that black box that takes in air, and remove it, and hook up some line to it do a search for installs.. its quite easy..

damn you razor

intake/exhaust/header would be a great start...but b4 just goin out and buyin parts do some research on it...
most ppl on here agree on the same things...
intake..AEM or custom..i guess
exhaust..local mom and pop shops and do the custom piping for you..2.5 cat back is good...with some sort of muffler
header...DC has good product..kamikazi is good also.
good luck mang

Besides intake/headers/exhaust, I think I read somewhere that there is supposed to be a fourth component for the initial modification. Are they pulleys? What are they supposed to do? Also, how does suspension help speed up your car? It should be great for looks and cornering but with speed?

Let's see, pulleys really are just going to loosen up HP that is already there, mmm and the only way suspension is going to help your speed is really off of the launch. Typically the lower the car the less the tires are going to break loose, and probably lower to the ground means less resistance.

Other than that I don't know how suspension could make you go faster.

Are you here for "show" or "go"? Looks will cost a lot more than speed. I'd save for an H22A motor swap. It'll bump your hp to 200. I've seen that swap go from $1900-$2500.
