Default Opinions about Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 225/50VR16

Seems like these are good tires on par with Azenis and Beidgestones for Auto-x duties??

Any feed back or opinions about these tires on an G3 Integra for Auto-x?

Will these 225/50VR16 fit a 16x7 wheels? There are some good deals on these on Tire rack.

Thanks

I wouldn't put that size on an Integra. They will probably rub, and they will slow you down (like putting taller gearing on your car).

For 16" wheels on an Integra, I would stick with either the Azenis RT-615 in 215/45-16, or the Bridgestone RE-01R in 205/45-16.

If you want to try the Z1 on your car, get some 15" wheels; they come in 195/55-15.

Are these offered at the same price point as the Azenis? I'd think it'd be a difficult value to beat.

I think the extra wide 215/40-17 Direzza Sport Z1 (only 23.8" diameter) might be the hot ticket for an Integra.
That's what I'm shooting for, anyway. If/when the setup comes through I'll post a fitment and performance review of course.

The Z1 is discontinued as of now, though. Dunlop is replacing it with a new Z1 "Star Spec" compound due out by the end of April to meet the SCCA deadline. Supposedly the new compound has the same ultimate grip but should heat up faster to provide more initial grip. Tire Rack has the old ones on sale plus a $50 rebate from Dunlop, while they last..

Yes, they are similar in price to the Azenis.

Yep. Diameter is good (especially if shaved), width is good and the sidewall is thin, which will really help steering response.

But, there is a new compound coming that's going to grip 'quicker' (not as much heat needed) with the same overall grip levels. Should be here in a month or so.

Is it possible you are confusing the supersticky Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 (which is not available in 205/50-15) with the budget performance Dunlop Direzza DZ101 (which is available in 205/50-15)?

Direzza Sport Z1 215/40/17 = $86 at the local goodyear store. Plus, they quality for a $50 rebate.

So, total for all 4 tires = $294

Picking them up tomorrow morning and having them mounted on my 17x7.5" SSR's later that day.

I posted these over on sccaforums as well, but here's a shot of the Direzzas in a 215/40/17 vs. Azenis RT615 225/45/17.

Yeah, the Dunlops are pretty wide...

just fyi, you cant get any from tirerack. The only reason that that size was placed at $65 was because there was only one tire available..............trust me i tried to buy 3 sets at $240 shipped.

Also the star spec should be available through tire rack this comeing week, and the tires will still qualify for the rebate.

I have them on my stock 95 GSR and ran them at a California Speedway event this past weekend. Works great for a non-r-comp tire. Temps were in the 79-82 degrees. They don't squeal loud or at all, so approaching the limit can be tricky. Tire breaks loose in a nice progressive fashion. RE-01R performance for 80% of the cost, plus a rebate for $50.

What size did you run?

Anybody have photos of the 215/40-17 mounted and on a car, maybe even a 94-01 Integra? I'm hoping they aren't toooo wide.

I will later this week. Mounting them on 17x7.5" SSR's. I don't think they'll be too wide, but it'll be close and you may need to do a little fender rolling if you haven't already done so.

Short sidewall tire + wide tire should = incredible steering response and the ability to quickly change direction.

As posted on SCCAforums.. http://sccaforums.com/forums/1...92134

215/40-17 Direzza Sport Z1's mounted on 17x7 et40 wheels.

I was afraid they'd be too wide! But fortunately they're just right.
NO rubbing on my skidpad test so far.

Ride height (with 195/55-15 Blizzaks) is 23-3/8" front, 23-7/8" rear measured from the ground to the fender edge centered on the wheel hub (NOT slammed by any means, maybe 1.5-2" lowered from stock)
Camber -1.8' front, -1.0' rear. 0' toe f/r
Spring rates 400lb front, 350lb rear, 24mm front bar, 23mm rear bar. (daily driver, not a super stiff STS-killer yet)

17x7.5 wheels with a 45mm offset should be perfect for an Integra, especially if you're running -2 to -3 camber.

ouch it seems like they also have a hefty price increase over the "old" Z1's, 195/55-15 is $125.70, which puts it even higher than the RE01R and almost 50% more than the azenis in 205/50-15.

I guess since they don't have a 215 sized 16, I will try running the same size on 16x7 (+41 offset) rims (on a 92 hatch)

Your running an 6th gen right. My 225's are the factory 205/55/16 diameter. They might be a bit tall on an 6th gen. But I'm pretty sure that you'll be pleased with the Direzza.
