Default Rear brakes on H4 car

I have a 1990 honda civic hatchback dx. I am currently in the process of building it for H4. I was wondering if it were legal for me to replace the rear brakes with discs?

It is legal for me to call it a body swapped si, correct?Being removal of sunroof is legal and the car has no structural advantages.

discs were never an option on 88-91 Civics. discs only came on 90-91 CRX's. so, unless you claim you are "bodyswapping" from a 90-91 CRX Si, uh. no.

as for the motor, as far as i know, yes. but i'm not sure what else you have to add to keep it legal. at that point i'm not sure exactly what distinguishes an Si from a DX..

rear disc-no
to swap the engine and trans you also need to swap manifold and ecu to multiport (i dont know why you wouldnt)

I have had the same question

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by E-AT_me &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">discs were never an option on 88-91 Civics. discs only came on 90-91 CRX's. so, unless you claim you are "bodyswapping" from a 90-91 CRX Si, uh. no.

So get your facts straight. Rear discs came on both 90-91 Civic and CRX Si's.

excuse me? are you talking to me? telling ME to get my facts straight? i drive a 91 Civic Si 110 miles a day, and it definately doesn't have discs in the rear. my 1990 CRX Si had discs in the rear.

wow, heh, i guess I have just seen a ton of rear disc swapped hatchs. I figured the 90-91 civics came with rear disc like the CRX. Seems like someone told me I could use hatch Si e-brake cables when I did the rear discs on my sedan. Oh well that sucks, drums are such a pain to work on. I really want to build my civic into H4 but really didn't want to go back to drums.

discs on sedans will push you out of H4, too. no sedan came with rear discs. EX w/d16a6 came with bigger front brakes though. still drums in the rear. EX also came with a few other "heavy" options..

btw, Si's have tilt steering. just another thing you've got to swap over to. i believe.

edit: read your post again. seems you know that discs on your sedan are illegal for H4. oh well!

side note: 88 Sedan DX for H5 here!! see it in 2 years time!

I wouldn't worry too much about the rear drums. My first race car was a 1988 DX. I eventually swapped in a 125 hp SOHC vtec and the DX brakes coped just fine with the extra power on any track I visited. I just had Honda OEM shoes in them with braided steel lines and they were very low-maintenance. I believe I was running Hawk HP+ on most occasions for the front, on the OEM DX brakes.

Yea, im not too worried about braking power, drums always held up fine for me too on track. I did the swap just for ease of use, my drums I would have to manually adjust every month or so to keep the brake pedal firm and up top. I have the EX brakes on the front anyway, so braking shouldn't be an issue at all.

My DX has tilt steering, but even if it didn't, would that really be something you would have to worry about, having non-tilt steering doesn't really give you any advantage so it doesn't seem like that would keep one out of H4.
