Default ek door wont open

i have a 98 ex and my door recently decided not to open anymore. i got out and went into my house for a brief second and came back out but i couldnt get into my car. i crawled around and went in the passenger door to discover the door was still unlocked but it wouldnt open from the inside either. the door doesnt get slammed so i dont know what happened. has anyone ever had that problem or know how to fix it.

Perhaps the door rod came off the latch mechanism

nope. all the rods are still there. i think it was something in the actual latching mechanism. i just dont know how to get the door panel off without destroying it.
