Short Version,

I missshifted out of third into 2nd and bent 2 exhaust valves. had the head fixed car runs good!


Ques: My car makes a "almost" metal on metal moan/squeek noise. But it only makes it in 1st gear when i start to go from a dead stop. ( load bearing ) It doesnt make it if i am going slow and down shift into 1st and then accelerate again. Or in any other gear when moving or in reverse. Where should I start at trying to fix this, or even assess the problem? when I miss shifted could my axle/universal joint in the boot be screwed up and making that noise?

sorry to bust in like this, how much was it to fix your bent exhaust valves? Also I get that same problem ever since I put my new clutch competition clutch in, its a scraping sound off the line but once cars warmed up its gone.

 

MY uncle is a mechanics team manager ( OR WAS) for Benz and some of his guys he got from Honda. One of those guys got me the hookup and i paid 120$ to have the head rebuilt not including labor for tare down and put back together. What actually happened was that I bent both exhaust valves in the 4th cylinder on the exhaust cam. I also very minutely nicked that cam lobe which i had very carefully hand filed smooth. My Clutch is a SPEC stage II kevlar clutch andis very smooth but I can feel this "sound" in my pedal and have a feeling its the throwout bearing or the clutch is fuc*ed in sum way! Thats normally my luck. I actually was coming out of third gear running about 80 i and went straight into 2nd. It sucked! I just want the noise to go away!

 

Did this noise start happening after the clutch install? I get the same thing with my twin disc. Does it sound like a squeak/squeal? I can feel my cmc about to take a crap.
