89 Civic DX tried everything, losing hope..
For the past month, we have had this Honda from Hell in for servicing at Honda to find the reason for stalling. The mechanics even have taken it home, and found they couldn't get it to stall. Finally one had it stall under full load. At that point, they found the alternator was hooped and it was drawing directly off the battery.
So far this is what they have done and has been done to this car.
Checked the fuel pump and main relay, good pressure up to 44 lbs at times.
New main relay and fuel pump put in in July. Honda part for the main relay and not an aftermarket one.
Honda the past week has with Honda parts replaced the igniter ( heat piece was missing off the igniter), distributor cap (broken pin inside showed it to us) new rotor and put on a new alternator. Replaced the O2 Sensor, cleaned the injectors, plugged in the rad fan that was unplugged somehow. They did a tuneup and replaced the spark plugs. Cleaned out two carboned up hoses and replaced a hose. Checked the PCM and 3 other sensors including one that had to do with the alternator. Checked the Idle Control Module and it was fine.
After the alternator was replaced two weeks ago, it ran like a charm for one week, and ended up stalling again last Friday & being towed back to Honda to have the rotor etc done. One week later we drove it home yesterday (Saturday) and all around Sat night, ran fine.
Today Sunday it gets driven 100 km to town and back, pull into the driveway and it dies. Check Engine light and battery light come on.
Could the idle be set too far down now as it was running rich, and that was adjusted in the tuneup. They say the battery is good, but could it be a bad one that should be replaced? The mechanic has checked the wiring and found nothing, no loose wires. All voltages are normal.
HELP.....
