Default just bought a DOCH ZC Civic SI

so ive been on here for a while, just dont post much...

i own a 5th gen prelude, that i am now selling, and since its being sold, i needed a new vehicle. i bought an 89 si, with a zc swap. i knew going into it it would need work, but thats the reason i wanted it more than the lude.

ill try and get some pics up sometime, im in the middle of de-rice-ing it as we speak.

the previous owner told me he did the wiring all himself, and that it was an obd1 originally, and he converted to obd0. it has a zc stamp on the block, and a 92 stamp on the head. the motor feels peppy (no h22, but eh), but not as peppy as i had hoped. it was throwing a code 7 and 9, i believe tps, and cylinder sensor. i replaced the cam angle sensor, and no more code, runs way better.

now my only problem is, its rev limiting at 6800ish. which made me believe it was a stock usdm si ecu. i checked the ecu #, and referenced it, and it is an 86-89 integra ecu- pg7-a030. theres also a pg7-a022 in the trunk, but it makes it run like ****, and then threw a 1 code. so i put back in the a030, but they both rev limit at 6800-7k area. ????

i thought these had a higher limit, like the jdm zc ecu (pm7), and no speed limit??? im kinda confused, dont know what route to go, because i dont even know if i can find a pm7.

someone please let me know, thanks.

</TD></TR></TABLE>did you have it up to operating temperature (cooling fan comes on)? - the cold start rev limit on the PG7 is at about 6800

im using the integra ecu and the rev limits aroun7200.but it doesnt run like crap.that ecu actually is better than the si ecu.it has a more aggressive air/fuel ratio

zccr-xsi has that right...the pg7 will run better than a pm6, but it'll run rich and smell funny when you first start the car up

so one thing i didnt consider was operating temps. i just today had realized that the temp sensor wasnt hooked up. the wire came out, so the fan wasnt coming on, and the gauge stayed flat. so i got that hooked up, but have not noticed if it hits a higher rev limit now. ill have to check...

thanks for the responses.

and yes, i know the pm7 would be a better option, but i dont have that option right now. i just bought the car, and just need to figure out its little kinks. so now i know. id actually rather get a jumper for obd1, chip it, and get it tuned. but for now ill just live with what i have.

ok, so i now have ANOTHER QUESTION...

i took it for a spin again, and yes, it revs past 7k when at operating temp. so im a little happier with the performance...

but i was on the highway, had been getting on it all night, just feeling the car out, and after 30+ minutes of driving, this ECU throws #1, which is oxygen sensor #1. It also was backfiring when i got on the gas hard after the CEL lit up. i pulled over, cleared the code, and it drove fine home, no more CEL.

any ideas as to what could be throwing this code??? bad gas possibly??? it had like 1/8-1/4 tank in it when i bought it. smelled like hell, and from what i was told, is probably anywhere from 3 months to 1 year old. so i just filled her the rest of the way up with shell premium, and put in a can of BG 44k to clear out the system. its still on this tank, but im hoping once i burn this one and refill it, itll be nice and clean.

sorry for the long posts, but i figure the more info i give, the more accurate responses and answers.

thanks again!

if your running an aftermarket header that places the o2 sensor farther down in the exhaust stream, it may not be reading accurately, if at all....a 1 wire o2 has to maintain 600 degrees farenhiet in order to function, and the farther down the exhaust stream the harder it is for the sensor to reach that temp...
if you are using the stock zc manifold or if your header has the o2 in the "stockish" location then check your wire to the ecu, and if that is good then test the sensor...they go bad more than you might think...
btw..nothing wrong w/ long posts..the more info the better!!

ok, cool, that might explain it. because it does have a dc header on it, which locates it closer to the oil pan or the 4-2 merge area. and IIRC, its usually around the top of the #4 runner? it hasnt thrown the code since, so we shall see.

thanks a lot for the support.

i personally fought with a code 1 forever..even used a heated o2 but even that didnt work right because the heater was either on, or off, as opposed to the ecu controlling it (like an obdI or obdII would)
