DAP paint recall?
Hi, does anyone know if theres some sort of DAP (Dark Ameyhst Pearl) paint recall ? I used search but the question wasn't really never answered. I have a 99 DX Hatchback and the original paint was peeling off everywhere. bumper, spoiler, fenders, everywhere. so i got it repainted and things seemed good. but after about 4 months, its starting to peel AGAIN
paint near the roof of the car is starting to peel off. does anyone know if theres a problem with it ? dont wanna keep blowing money on repainting my car. thanks

true that is fast....you might wanna tak it back to where you got it painted...maybe they didnt paint the car right and that caused that paint to start peeling...I think that would be your best shot...the place that painted your car should stand behind there work

That reminds me of that one blue color that came on Dodge Neons...anybody know the one I'm talking about? It's sort of a flat blue, and every single one you see on the road has the paint flaking off all over the place.

if your paint was peeling or deteriorating, it might show something in the paint known in the autobody business as crows feet. The right way to prep it before paint would be to actually sand the affected spots down to bare metal. If you paint right over it, the same problems will occur in a couple of months.

They probably didn't realize how severe the previous damage was. They might have only seen that the clear coat was damaged, while microscopic damage was as deep as the primer coat. Thats why i said it would be best to sand it down to bare metal and start over because it's really hard to tell how far the damage has gone.
That actually isnt uncommon with DAP. Mine, as most others did, was flaking off around the rear side windows on both sides
And if im not mistaken 99 was the last year they offered it on civics. Mine was a 99

yeah its always either the qp right under the windows, the roof, or the a-pillar. And to answer the question-there wasnt a recall. But if a dealership recently painted your car, and by painted i mean all prep and body work, then they would more than likely fix it. No harm in asking.

you can see a big sticker by my antennae in the first pic. It was covering a spot the size of a half dollar. In the second one you can see the paint below and above the window and in the third you can see a few flakes scattered to the rear of the window.IDK what the deal was with the color but were you guy's seeing that it was just the topcoat flaking off or maybe even the sealer too ? The spots on mine where the paint was flaking were a greenish brown color. I believe it was etching primer i was seeing, or maybe it was the sealer. Im no Chip Foose
Anyway i decided to do away wit the DAP b\c a respray was the only way to ensure that it didn't happen again and a complete respray using OEM color didnt seem like fun so this is what it looks like now....

the bitch of it is that im now thinking about going back
